Tim Gartland had me hooked within the first minute of the lead track on his latest album. The lyrics to the chorus are simply: “I’m a party of one… but I’m drinking for two.” That pretty much sets the tone for this rollicking 10-song LP of new originals. “Satisfied” was recorded in Franklin, Tennessee, at The Rock House, produced by Kevin McKendree. The lineup is as follows: producer Kevin McKendree on keyboards (Delbert McClinton, Brian Setzer), Tom West on keyboards (Susan Tedeschi, Duke Robillard), Jack Bruno on drums (Tina Turner, Joe Cocker), Steve Mackey on bass (Delbert McClinton, Wallflowers), Robert Frahm on guitar (Blues Warriors), Tom Britt on guitar (Vince Gill, Jonell Mosser) and Memphis legend Wendy Moten on background vocals. Gartland sings lead vocals and plays his trademark blues harp.

The smash success of Celtic Woman generated a lot of demand for more music from the talented performers, and The Water Is Wide is a rerelease of the first album of Orla Fallon, the harp-playing brunette. As the title suggests, the album is filled with traditional songs, including "The Water Is Wide," "She Moved Thro' the Fair," and "Down by the Sally Gardens," as well as traditional Irish songs such as "Aliliu Na Gamhna," "Carrickfergus," and "The Gartan Mother's Lullaby." Celtic Woman fans will enjoy hearing "Siuil a Run" again, and it also provides a different vibe to the rest of the album's steady flow of delicate loveliness. Most of the songs are Orla accompanying herself, but at only 37 minutes, The Water Is Wide doesn't overstay its welcome. The album peaked at No. 9 on the Billboard chart of World Music albums in 2006.

Celtic Thunder is a popular multi-generational Irish vocal ensemble and stage show combining traditional Irish folk roots with more contemporary sounds. Emerging in 2008, the production has yielded dozens of platinum-selling albums and videos over the years, including Heritage (2011), Voyage (2012), and Homeland (2021). Celtic Thunder has occasionally explored music outside of the folk idiom with forays into Broadway musicals, pop, rock, and holiday standards. Celtic Thunder was conceived by Sharon Browne and written and arranged by Phil Coulter and designed as a contemporary exploration of Celtic music.

At age 15, Neal Schon landed job offers from both Carlos Santana and Eric Clapton – in the same week! Schon would eventually join Santana where he would meet keyboardist Gregg Rolie. After a short stint with Santana, Schon and Rolie would leave to form the super successful Journey. Despite Journey's ascension to the pinnacle of the rock world, Schon was often criticized for failing to live up to his advanced billing. The adulation of rock luminaries such as Carlos Santana and Eric Clapton left no room for anything but the Second Coming. Million's of fans saw it differently. Journey would eventually become the largest selling act in Columbia Records history; and, a 1983 Gallup Poll named Journey America's favorite band. Even in Journey, though, Schon's contributions were often eclipsed by the unique voice of Steve Perry. It would take him the better part of two decades, and the 1989 release of Late Nite, before he would finally take center stage.

Never Too Late is best remembered today as drummer John Coghlan's final album with the band he'd served since the early '60s. The bulk of the set, however, was actually cut during the same sessions that produced the previous year's Just Supposin', although it's a struggle to say which of the two came out with the better songs. Neither is what one would describe as a classic Quo disc, but nor are they as disposable as some of the band's later releases. Indeed, any record that includes the bright bonhomie of "Something 'Bout You Baby I Like," the new album's biggest hit, is sure to have a few things to recommend it.
