Dalida was one of the most important female singers in the history of French music, yet she is hardly known in Britain or America. Her career spanned 32 years from 1956 to 1987, when she committed suicide. She recorded for the Barclay label until 1970, when she moved to her brother's label, Orlando. This collection contains (as far as I know) every song she recorded for Barclay in it's original form (no remixes here). Another massive boxed set is available covering all her Orlando recordings. The CD's that make up the two boxed sets were all made available separately.

Dalida’s extraordinary life story begins in the Cairo suburbs, where she grew up in total anonymity as the young daughter of a bourgeois immigrant family. After being crowned Miss Egypt at the age of 19, Dalida went on to launch a singing career, scoring a phenomenal hit with the song "Bambino". In the course of her 30-year career Dalida became an enormous international star.
The immensely popular diva, who died a tragic death in 1987, has now become a cult figure for a whole new generation of fans who were not even born when Mademoiselle Bambino first rocketed to fame in the 1950’s.

Francoise Hardy, the french idol of the 60s, during her "Vogue years", has recorded all her hits in the popular Extended Play 45 rpm format records, with 4 songs in total (2 songs per side). The Ep format was very popular in Europe during the 60s, and usally the albums had nice covers with portrait photos of the artists. This compilation includes 161 hits collected from 35 Francoise's EPs and many bonus songs from 45 and 33 rpm original vinyls released in the golden period 1962 - 1968. It is a collector's paradise since it contains the original mono versions including all Hardy's songs in other languages (English, Italian and German). A rare collection with many photos of beautiful Francoise, detailed tracklits on the scanned back covers and a booklet with all EPs included in pdf format. Enjoy.

Contemporary Christian music first came onto the scene of popular music during the Jesus movement revival of the late 1960s and early 1970s. One of the first, popular "Jesus music" albums was Upon This Rock (1969) by Larry Norman initially released on Capitol Records. Unlike traditional or southern gospel music, this new Jesus music was birthed out of rock and roll. The pioneers of this movement also included Keith Green, 2nd Chapter of Acts, Andraé Crouch and the Disciples, Love Song, Petra, and Barry McGuire. The small Jesus music culture had expanded into a multimillion-dollar industry by the 1980s. By the 1990s, many CCM artists such as Amy Grant, dc Talk, Michael W. Smith, Stryper, and Jars of Clay had found crossover success with Top 40 mainstream radio play. Currently, Christian music sales exceed those for classical, jazz, Latin, New Age, and soundtrack music.

Il n’a pas tant d’albums, Daniel Bevilacqua, et son parcours de chanteur nommé Christophe est pour le moins accidenté. Il y a de grands trous, dont un vrai gouffre qu’il a fallu 13 ans à remonter. Mais là où les grands succès suffisent à presque tout le monde (Aline, Les marionnettes, Les mots bleus et Les paradis perdus, c’est à peu près ça), les amoureux du plus angoissé des yéyés, du malheureux chronique à la voix de verre, veulent toutes les traces qu’il a laissées de son passage sur terre, et ils sont ici servis : les versions italiennes, les duos, ses états des lieux successifs à l’Olympia, la bande originale du film Sur la route de Salina (1970), les raretés d’avant Aline jusqu’à une reprise de Béart, sur un album hommage dont il est forcément le fantôme, puisque disparu juste avant. La COVID-19 a trouvé en lui une proie de choix, un étouffement annoncé. On peut se s’estimer heureux qu’il ne soit pas mort en 1965 : cette intégrale est celle d’une vie en sursis.

Notre Dame de Paris is a French-Canadian musical which debuted on 16 September 1998 in Paris. It is based upon the novel Notre Dame de Paris by the French novelist Victor Hugo. The music was composed by Riccardo Cocciante (also known as Richard Cocciante) and the lyrics are by Luc Plamondon. Since its debut, it has played in Canada, France, Belgium, Switzerland, Italy, Spain, South Korea and Taiwan. A shorter version in English was performed in 2000 in Las Vegas, Nevada (USA) and a full-length London production, also in English, ran for seventeen months. Popular songs from the show, such as Belle and Le temps des cathedrales have also been translated into Belarusian, Catalan, Czech, German, Lithuanian, Polish, Russian and English. “Notre Dame de Paris”, according to the Guinness Book of Records, had the most successful first year of any musical ever.

One of French pop's most poetic songwriters, Georges Brassens was also a highly acclaimed and much-beloved performer in his own right. Not only a brilliant manipulator of language and a feted poet in his own right, Brassens was also renowned for his subversive streak, satirizing religion, class, social conformity, and moral hypocrisy with a wicked glee. Yet beneath that surface was a compassionate concern for his fellow man, particularly the disadvantaged and desperate. His personal politics were forged during the Nazi occupation, and while his views on freedom bordered on anarchism, his songs expressed those convictions more subtly than those of his contemporary, Léo Ferré. Though he was a skilled songwriter, Brassens had little formal musical training, and he generally kept things uncomplicated – simple melodies and spare accompaniment from a bass and second guitar. Along with Jacques Brel, he became one of the most unique voices on the French cabaret circuit, and exerted a tremendous influence on many other singers and songwriters of the postwar era. His poetry and lyrics are still studied as part of France's standard educational curriculum.
