Released in 1982 "Rit/2" made the Top 5 in the jazz charts, and stayed on the Billboard chart for 14 weeks, "Cross My Heart" was the debut single from the album that featured vocals by Eric Tagg, who is also prominent on "Rit". "Rit" and "Rit/2" were the only albums Ritenour was to record for Elektra, as he moved to Dave Grusin's GRP label where he picked up a Grammy award for an album he released with Dave Grusin titled "Harlequin".

Lee Ritenour co-produced this with drummer Harvey Mason (of Fourplay fame) and David Foster both who he had been working with for years. The lead vocalist is Eric Tagg a Dutch vocalist who sang on several of Rit's albums, them became a preacher although he did release an album in 1997. Highlights include "No Sympathy" and "Is It You" also featuring Bill Champlin on backing vocals. Lee and Harvey wrote the liner notes. Many other fabulous musicians are featured as well.

Session ace Lee Ritenour once more employs the cream of L.A.'s studio crop to come up with a drab, utterly unimaginative slab of nondescript pop. With guest vocalists like Eric Tagg and Bill Champlin (who also contribute as composers), Ritenour and his cohorts - among them Jeff Porcaro, Harvey Mason, David Foster, Alex Acuña, and Richard Tee - craft a pristine sonic foray into early-'80s production styles without a memorable song in ten. This is especially exasperating considering that Ritenour had the audacity to cover Sly Stone's "(You Caught Me) Smilin'" and murder it. Simply lifeless and dreadful.

GRAMMY-winning, guitarist Lee Ritenour, AKA Captain Fingers, has a wide-ranging array of material to revive, as evidenced by A Twist of Rit. 2015 commemorates 40 years since his debut recording, First Course, on Epic Records. A Twist of Rit, set for release on August 21, 2015 via Concord Records, is a magnificent follow-up to his critically acclaimed 2012 album Rhythm Sessions. Based on the wildly popular A Twist of… series that Ritenour curated for the GRP imprint, A Twist of Rit has the artist not reimagining Bob Marley, Jobim, or Motown but rather reimagining his own catalog of hits. There will also be a few new Ritenour compositions. Like the original Twist Of… series this will be an all-star affair featuring: John Beasley, Dave Grusin, Patrice Rushen, Ernie Watts, Melvin Lee Davis, Michael Thompson, Wah Wah Watson, David T.
