Letter From New York

This double CD documents two key moments in Wire's development: their debut four-piece appearances on April 1-2, 1977 (five months before making Pink Flag), and one of their earliest U.S. shows from summer 1978, prior to the release of Chairs Missing.

The 2-disc CD release is planned for July. Unlike many cast recordings, the album features 90 minutes of music from the show’s score, including orchestral interludes. Like the show, the album is a love letter to New York City, with music ranging from thrilling Afro-Cuban rhythms, and traditional Big Band, to classic Broadway showstoppers. Released through the Wine & Peaches label, the album is produced by Michael Croiter, Sam Davis, Lin-Manuel Miranda, co-produced by Sonia Friedman, Tom Kirdahy, Craig Balsam. In the winter of 2003, Legendary Filmmaker Jonas Mekas, moved out of his loft on Broadway, New York, where he had lived for the past 30 years. It was the place where he watched his children grow, and the art scene of Soho become what it was today. It was where Andy Warhol and Allen Ginsberg used to come by for film events and dinner. This film shows Mekas' transition in to a new life living in Brooklyn, and the adventures this entails. Discovering new friends, singing and dancing with his good friend Benn, and their adventures together. Mekas also faces what it is to live along again in Brooklyn, the place where he first lived when he arrived in New York as a misplaced person in 1947 after ww2. A film of Joy, friendship, wine, and song!

Alvin’s blistering performance at the Woodstock Festival in 1969 is considered by many as the pinnacle of his career. The eleven-minute number ‘I’m Going Home’ was to become Ten Years After’s signature song and was prominently featured in the Woodstock movie released the following year. However, feeling increasingly confined within the band’s musical style, Alvin was soon looking for new challenges to express his creative versatility. For his first project, he recorded the studio album ‘On The Road To Freedom’ with gospel singer Mylon LeFevre. Shortly after (in response to a dare by a friend) he assembled a nine-piece band for a one-off performance at London’s legendary Rainbow Theatre on March 22, 1974.
