This painting lesson series is more than just lessons. It is a painting learning experience. There are 16 basic lessons included in this series that cover everything from basic clouds to water and grass. You will learn everything you need to know to create amazing paintings. You will learn what brushes to use, what paint colors to mix and how to apply the paint!

Donato begins the DVD by taking photographic reference, used to add a high degree of realism and detail to his thumbnail sketch. Work on the the actual oil painting gives him opportunity to cover everything from the delicate subtleties of portraiture to eye-popping metallic surfaces. Throughout the video Donato generously passes on his years of experience and ends by inviting the viewer to surpass his own accomplishments.

What is one of the most challenging aspects of creating original art? It doesn’t matter if you work with oils, acrylics, watercolor or pastels. Every artist in every medium has at one point struggled with color.

In this phase we will be exploring one of the most important aspects of figure drawing, anatomy. We will be taking an in depth look at the arms and legs, starting with the skeleton and working our way up to the surface morphology. Along the way we will be examining the form and functionality of individual muscles, bones, and joints. Beyond that I will also be covering how I use my anatomical knowledge, not only to better understand what I am seeing, but also to clarify and improve my drawings. Anatomy is a subject that any aspiring figurative artist should cycle through once a year in their studies. It is my privilege to be your guide through what I am sure is the first cycle for many of you.
