Lindsey Buckingham

While most bands undergo a number of changes over the course of their careers, few of them experienced a more radical stylistic evolution than Fleetwood Mac. Initially conceived as a hard-edged British blues combo in the late '60s, the band gradually evolved into an incredibly popular and influential pop/rock act over the course of a decade. Originally, guitarists Peter Green and Jeremy Spencer provided the group with their gutsy psychedelic blues-rock sound, then the band moved toward pop/rock with the addition of keyboardist/songwriter Christine McVie.

After the trilogy opened with Rumours (1977) and Tusk (1979), Fleetwood Mac played Mirage at the famous Château d'Hérouville between 1981 and 1982, where Bowie, Iggy, Cat Stevens and a whole host of others also passed by. The acoustics there were compared to those in Abbey Road.

Famed for her mystical chanteuse image, singer/songwriter Stevie Nicks enjoyed phenomenal success not only as a solo artist but also as a key member of Fleetwood Mac. Possessed of a raspy croon, Nicks had a duo with Lindsey Buckingham in the early '70s, releasing an excellent folk-pop album as Buckingham Nicks before the pair were absorbed into veteran U.K. group Fleetwood Mac. Nicks' and Buckingham's talents helped steer the band to superstardom with the enormous hit albums Fleetwood Mac and Rumours. In the '80s, Nicks ventured out on her own, scoring numerous hit singles and ultimately leaving the band.

Fleetwood Mac, the English group with the blues sound, got their name after two of the initial members. The heart of the group, Peter Green, is one of the best electric blues guitarists you can ever hear. Ex-president Bill Clinton was a big fan. Rehearsal Live 1975 is a practice session Fleetwood Mac did before they were to go on tour for their self-titled 1975 album, which would lead to the hits "Rhiannon" and "Landslide". It was recorded at Trod Nossel Studios in Wallingford, Connecticut on 23 September, 1975, is directly from the soundboard and sounds incredible. It sounds as if it was made for an industry recording or a radio show but the crowd sounds limited in size so it seems it was an invite-only performance, perhaps with closest friends or maybe just the roadies. This is the point in the band's history where Lindsey Buckingham and Stevie Nicks joined them, leading to a success that the band had never reached before, but it's not only nice to hear songs from older albums, but also hearing Buckingham sing "The Green Manalishi (With The Two Prong Crown)". Christine McVie becomes a spokesperson for the band during the show while Nicks shows a slight shyness that would slowly loosen up as the group became more popular with their two new members. The band go as far back as 1969 to do "Oh Well". This was released by the Zion label.
