Little Voices

Mosaic Voices are the Resident Choir at the New West End Synagogue, in London. The synagogue, designed in 1877 by the Scottish architect George Audsley, is a masterpiece of Victorian architecture, known for its beautiful choral acoustic. A great deal of the material on this album is therefore music sung by Mosaic Voices, in Hebrew, during religious services and festivals, of which this music forms a functional element.

Gothic Voices, the world-famous early music ensemble, makes its Linn debut with a recording celebrating the biblical matriarch Mary. Pieces from contemporary composers Joanne Metcalf and Andrew Smith sit alongside settings of Marian texts from the 13th and 14th centuries. Notably, there is a rare setting of English biblical text which precedes the first publication of an English language bible by 150 years. Mary in her various guises - caring mother, virgin lover, guiding light - are explored through settings of ancient ritualistic texts showing her mythical and human aspects, whilst contemporary settings relate the themes to the modern day. The contemporary works are cleverly constructed around a modal core so that they fit perfectly with the structure and sound of the early music compositions. But everything in this album is not that simple, not that easily categorized–not when one really listens to the extraordinarily meaningful lyrics that are virtually always the thing. Especially are things not so simple when one listens to the words written by Bob Dylan, the young front-runner of the message and/or protest folk song, folk rock, folk 'n' roll, anti-protest song, what-have-you. True, his words are as timely as today's headlines, but, paradoxically, they are also timeless, frequently dealing with social-political ills we can exchange for those headlines but which also could be set down in many a generation and be topical.

"Get Weird" is the third studio album by British girl group Little Mix. Get Weird received generally positive reviews from music critics. At Metacritic, which assigns a normalized rating out of 100 to reviews from mainstream critics, the album received an average score of 66, which indicates "generally favourable reviews", based on 5 reviews.AllMusic described the album as "ear-poppingly catchy". As of November 2015, Little Mix are the only girl group from the UK to have their first three albums debut in the top fifteen of the Billboard 200. As of August 2016, the album has been certified double platinum in the UK for shipments of over 600,000 units.
