Listen Like Thieves 40th Anniversary is a deep dive celebration into INXS’s global breakthrough album. The Deluxe Edition is a 1LP + 3CD set containing a brand-new 2025 stereo mix of the Listen Like Thieves album by Giles Martin; Paul Hicks on CD and vinyl. Built from the ground up in partnership with the band, they have been able to find new layers of sonic depth and a fresh dimension giving fans a new listening experience with the record. Also included is a trove of previously unreleased sessions tracks, outtakes and demos curated by Giles Martin, a rare BBC Recording; ‘Live From The Royal Albert Hall, London, 1986’, and extensive liner notes that include a brand new interview with the band by renowned journalist Paul Sexton.

Listen Like Thieves may not have been INXS's biggest album—that honor would certainly belong to its world-conquering follow-up, 1987's Kick—but it is arguably the band's best album. Its predecessor, 1984's The Swing, found INXS working out how to fuse their innate "modern-rock" edge with their growing affinity for rhythmic intensity, while Kick was the sound of a band that had buffed all of their quirkier edges away in pursuit of becoming a highly optimized hit-single machine. Right in the middle was Listen Like Thieves, the very definition of a "pivotal" album, not just for what it meant for INXS, but also for a rapidly maturing "alternative" music scene. They always had aspirations of chart dominance, but were also always highly unique in their execution, merging guitar-forward rockisms, serpentine rhythms, vocal swagger, and unconventional arrangements in a way that made them instantly identifiable and a formidable live presence.

INXS were an Australian rock band, formed as The Farriss Brothers in 1977 in Sydney, New South Wales. The band's founding members were bassist Garry Gary Beers, main composer and keyboardist Andrew Farriss, drummer Jon Farriss, guitarist Tim Farriss, lead singer and main lyricist Michael Hutchence, and guitarist and saxophonist Kirk Pengilly. For 20 years, INXS was fronted by Hutchence, whose magnetic stage presence made him the focal point of the band. Initially known for their new wave/pop style, the band later developed a harder pub rock and alternative rock style that included funk and dance elements.

INXS hailed from the pubs of Australia, which is part of the reason the band never comfortably fit in with new wave. Even when they branched out into synth pop on their early recordings, they were underpinned by a hard, Stonesy beat and the Jagger-esque strut of lead singer Michael Hutchence. Ultimately, these were the very things that made INXS into international superstars in the late '80s. By that time, the group had harnessed its hard rock, dance, and new wave influences into a sleek, stylish groove that made their 1987 album Kick a multi-million-selling hit.
