Lloyd Cole released his new album ‘Guesswork’ on 26th July ’19 on the earMUSIC label. Recorded (mostly) in his attic studio in Massachusetts, ‘Guesswork’ is produced by Lloyd and mixed by maverick German producer Olaf Opal, with executive production from Chris Hughes. The record was mastered by Kai Blankenberg at Skyline Tonfabrik in Dusseldorf. According to Cole, his 11th solo long-player was recorded “mostly in my attic” and the album contains eight new songs, two of which are co-written with his old bandmate in the Commotions, Blair Cowan (who last collaborated with Lloyd on 2010’s Broken Record). The music on the record is played by Cowan, Neil Clark (also an ex-Commotion), Fred Maher and Lloyd.
Through both his work being the front man of Lloyd Cole and the Commotions and his solo career, Lloyd Cole established himself as one of the most articulate and acute songwriters of the post-punk era. Undergoing several artistic shifts, from minimalist to folk-rock-inspired to electronic, Cole’s work never compromised the high creative value that he has proven to provide over his distinguished career. Following on from his last album, 2019's critically acclaimed "Guesswork", the musical style of “On Pain” consists mainly of electronic sounds. All songs were written by Lloyd Cole – half of them in collaboration with Neil Clark and Blair Cowan, the original members of The Commotions.
