Kinks - Lola versus Powerman and The Moneygoround, Part One, commonly abbreviated to Lola Versus Powerman, or just Lola, is the eighth studio album by British rock band the Kinks, recorded and released in 1970.

Mexico's most famous ranchera singer, Lucha Villa earned more notice than Lola Beltran thanks to a long, successful film career in addition to her recording work. Born in the Chihuahua state town of Ciudad Camargo in the mid-'30s, young Luz Elena Bejarano entered a number of talent contests and was dubbed Lucha Villa by television producer Luis Dillon (the name is a contraction of Pancho Villa and the Chihuahua village where he spent time). Her biggest early hit was a version of the José Alfredo Jiménez standard "Media Vuelta," and after several minor film roles, she became a star with the 1965 cockfighting feature El Gallo de Oro.

Remastered in stereo from the original tapes! The Kinks were in the middle of a commercial downturn when they made Arthur or the Decline and Fall of the British Empire in 1969. Their most recent album, 1968's The Kinks Are the Village Green Preservation Society, failed to chart in the U.S., and it was their lowest-selling record in their native U.K. at that time.

Antonio Flores was a famed Spanish actor and songwriter. The only male child of renowned actors and singers Lola Flores and Antonio González, he was surrounded by music and performers from a young age. Flores appeared in his first film, El Taxi de los Conflictos, at the age of eight. Though his background leaned toward flamenco, Flores chose pop/rock as style of choice. His debut record, Antonio, emerged in 1980. Though appreciated after time, the album was not successful at its release. Subsequent releases Al Caer el Sol (1984) and Gran Via (1988) also fell short of expectations. Though the '80s were a difficult period for Flores' recording career, he participated in a number of successful film projects, including Colegas, Calé, and Sangre y Arena.

Sam Hopkins was a Texas country bluesman of the highest caliber whose career began in the 1920s and stretched all the way into the 1980s. Along the way, Hopkins watched the genre change remarkably, but he never appreciably altered his mournful Lone Star sound, which translated onto both acoustic and electric guitar. Hopkins' nimble dexterity made intricate boogie riffs seem easy, and his fascinating penchant for improvising lyrics to fit whatever situation might arise made him a beloved blues troubadour.
