Texas albino blues-rock guitarist Johnny Winter was hardly an overnight sensation, and truthfully, he didn’t start out as a blues guitarist, either. He was just 15 when he first stepped into a Lone Star recording studio in 1960, and for the next seven years he was a complete studio rat, releasing dozens of regional singles in an impressive range of styles for local labels like Dart, Frolic, Diamond Jim, and Todd Records.

The Legendary Johnny Winter and his equally epic younger brother, Edgar Winter, began performing together when they were just kids. Their first TV appearance was on a local children’s television show in Houston / Beaumont area when they were somewhere around 10 years old, strumming the ukelele and singing.

Despite singing together since they were old enough to talk, it took a lifetime for sisters Shelby Lynne and Allison Moorer to record together. United by blood, growing up in the backwoods of Alabama and sharing an unspeakable tragedy – they witnessed their father take their mother's life and then his own – their coming together on Not Dark Yet was perhaps inevitable, but it wasn't easy. The pair did a celebrated tour together in 2010 and tried to write a collective album afterwards. They ended up abandoning that project, but not the desire to collaborate.

It's a story that begins in Memphis, where Luff was raised in a household with a hard-working mother and absentee father. She began singing during Sunday morning church services, graduating from the children's choir to the worship band. Back at home, the Beatles' records could be heard on the family stereo, rooting Luff's musical upbringing in pop melodies and classic songwriting.
