Long Beach 1971

This album was originally recorded in 1971. You might guess that date roughly from the songs that Annie Ross sings, with hippie anthems like Stoned Soul Picnic and touches of love and peace in the last two items. The date is also given away by the boogaloo rhythms and the jazz-rock in many items. Yet somehow Annie Ross transcends any particular time, as her vocals have long-lasting appeal.
Of course, she is best known as an exponent of vocalese in the trio Lambert, Hendricks & Ross, but she left them in 1962 and has since continued her career as a solo singer and seems inexhaustible: still wowing audiences at the age of 89…

Curtiss Maldoon is a folk music duo from England, formed by Dave Curtiss and Clive Maldoon (born Clive Skinner).They first began working together in the band Bodast in 1968 which also featured Steve Howe (Yes, Asia, GTR) on guitar and Bobby Woodman Clarke on drums. They recorded one album produced by Keith West whom Howe had worked with in UK psychedelic band Tomorrow (known for their hit "My White Bicycle"), but it remained unreleased until it came out in truncated and remixed form in 1982 as The Lost Bodast Tapes.

The A Time and a Place box set brings together a select body of live performances by Emerson, Lake & Palmer captured before worldwide audiences during the band's career and tenure at the sharp end of the Progressive rock genre. It features high-quality soundboard recordings on the first three discs and audience recordings on the fourth. The fifty two tracks composing “Original A’s & B’s 1965-1971” are all included in their original mono single mixes, with the exceptions of “Citizen Kane” and “Farther Along” which were only recorded in stereo and were never folded down or prepared in any mono format. The two discs come in a slimline jewel case and the forty eight page booklet contains the full lyrics in both Japanese and English.
Although they only attained the huge success of the Beatles, Rolling Stones, and the Beach Boys for a brief period in the mid-'60s, time has judged the Byrds to be nearly as influential as those groups in the long run. They were not solely responsible for devising folk-rock, but they were certainly more responsible than any other single act (Dylan included) for melding the innovations and energy of the British Invasion with the best lyrical and musical elements of contemporary folk music…

The latest Sonic Zoom transfer is an interesting collection of various one-off live tracks, none of which had been issued officially before until this title (although some have surfaced on bootlegs) - which has been out of print since 2004 (PUR 209) and is at last repackaged to match other titles in the collection. These CDs, which have been fully authorised by the original management company form an ongoing series of official archive releases…
