The appearance of the second album by Lumen Drones, ‘Umbra’, carries the status of a major event. Coming fully five years after the group’s startling, self-titled debut recording – released, in late 2015, on ECM Records – the long-awaited follow-up marks a significant leap forward. No less experimental than its predecessor, and certainly no less ‘electric’, yet in many ways a deeper and more profound expression of the trio’s interests, ‘Umbra’ is probably some sort of masterpiece.

Lumen Drones is a fascinating and powerful collaboration between Hardanger fiddle master Nils Økland and Per Stainar Lie and Ørjan Haaland, respectively guitarist and drummer with Norwegian ‘post-rock’ group The Low Frequency In Stereo. The participants describe their project as a “psychedelic drone band”, but its stylistic reach is broad and evocative and will trigger many musical associations.

A Kscope label CD release of Lumen, a recording of the solitary Steve Jansen/Richard Barbieri concert from 1st November 1996. Performing songs from the duo's Stone To Flesh, Stories Across Borders and Beginning To Melt albums, the show was recorded at the Milky Way as part of the famous Dutch Magazine OOR's 25th anniversary celebrations. Jansen and Barbieri were joined on stage by Mick Karn and Steven Wilson.
