Entire albums spent exploring the depths of the various nasty things surrounding romantic relationships were nothing new by the mid-'90s, but the vaguely cinematic and slightly conceptual Split is something more. Perhaps it's the manner in which each distinctive song manages to melt into the next. Or maybe it's the across-the-board improvements over Spooky. Most knew they were capable of more after the decent but flawed record, but it's doubtful many could have predicted something this thoroughly wonderful and varied. Throughout, Lush sounds confident and downright muscular, as opposed to the feathery wisps of earlier material that could be knocked down with the slightest of breezes.

This 4-song CD from the 1994 "Split" era contains "Desire Lines" from "Split", two "B-side" songs not on the full length album, and an unrecognizable remix of "Lovelife," which in its original form was the best song on "Split." What makes this CD essential is song 2, "White Wood"-yet another dreamy, original, awe-inspiring, unbelievably beautiful song by the English girl-group.

Ciao! Best of Lush is a compilation album for the band Lush, released in March 2001 by 4AD. The essay in the booklet was written by Dominic Wills and includes quotes from Miki Berenyi and Emma Anderson. The best-of CD appeared almost five years after the band's dissolution and drummer Chris Acland's suicide; the compilation is dedicated to his memory.

The Spinners were the greatest soul group of the early '70s, creating a body of work that defined the lush, seductive sound of Philly soul. Ironically, the band's roots lay in Detroit, where they formed as a doo wop group during the late '50s. Anyone arguing the case that the Pale Saints were the sole vision of Ian Masters was pretty much silenced when he left the group. Masters might have said some misleading things to the press but, as it turned out, his mates had a great deal of artistic input. That's probably what led to his departure.

Silk Road Assassins, a trio consisting of Tom E Vercetti, Chemist and Lovedr0id, return to Planet Mu with their debut full-length ‘State Of Ruin’ two years after their first EP ‘Reflection Spaces’. The trio recorded over two years, working together to start with, then across different studios and via the internet when their lives became more separated. They also finessed the album at Abbey Road studios, making use of some short time to add in extra layers.

The origins of Agalloch date back to 1995 and the disintegration of the band Aeolachrymae. As that group died, three phoenixes emerged from the ashes, Sussurrus Inanis, Nothing, and Agalloch. Mixing black metal with atmospheric textures, gothic doom, and neo-folk and post-rock touches, the Portland, OR-based group quickly developed a rabid cult following.
