Romulan's long-running Girls in the Garage series has done much to rectify that oversight, however, compiling an astounding amount of prime crunch – the first CD volume in the series is also its strongest, adding 11 tracks to the 16 that made up the original vinyl. Like all garage collections, there are equal amounts killer and filler, and the joy of discovery is alone worth the price of admission – Denise & Co.'s "Boy, What Will You Do Then," the Belles' "Come Back," and Lydia Marcelle's "The Girl He Needs" are top-shelf by any standard, however, and the Continental Co-Ets' blistering instrumental "Melody of Junk" dismisses once and for all any lingering misconceptions that the girls couldn't rock as hard as the boys.

UK collection, a 20-track retrospective from James Brown's 'funky Soul siren" and one of the most sampled female singers of all time! Nicknamed the "Female Preacher," Lyn Collins was discovered in the early '70s along with her relatives Bootsy and Catfish Collins by James Brown, who was making the transition to the hardest Funk phase of his career. Collins' work has appeared on Polydor compilations like James Brown's Funky People and James Brown's Original Funky Divas, as well as the bootleg singles comp Female Preacher; she continued to tour and perform, most notably at the European Jazz/Funk Festival (in both 1998 and 1999) and the Montreux Jazz Festival. Shortly after returning from a European tour in February of 2005, Lyn Collins passed away on March 13 at the age of 56. 20 tracks. Spectrum. 2005.

This is a benefit album for Lyn Ulbricht (mom of Silk Road founder Ross Ulbricht). Containing 17 tracks by the world's best microtonal musicians in a variety of genres. Microtonal means music that does not use standard 12-tone western scales. When done right, like on this album, it sounds simultaneously bizarre but familiar. People with open minds will love it. In fact, this album can even be a good test of strangers.
