Transience is the debut CD from an unusual, worldly (not just ‘world’-y) Australian duo. Racheal Cogan is a widely-travelled, skilled, creative player of the recorder. Forget ‘primary school’ notions of her instrument! Tony Lewis is one of Australia’s finest, most musically-diverse percussionists. When they met and first played together in 2005 they knew their duo would be ongoing, evolving. Transience (subtitled Contemporary Modal Music) has new versions of traditional pieces from Turkey and Macedonia, plus contemporary compositions by Racheal and by the most famous of her teachers/mentors - the Cretan-resident, Ross Daly.

Guitarist Nicola Conte's sixth recording as a leader is a vocal tour de force, as five different singers split up duties on select tracks. With a substantial horn section pulled from the jazz ranks, Conte takes on the role of producer more than instrumentalist, while exploring various strains of Latin jazz backings for his words and music that are mostly from his personal book of tunes.
Since the release of their first album, ‘Imbarca’, Barcelona Gipsy Klezmer Orchestra (aka BGKO) has constantly been on tour. During this touring period, many great musicians would often join to play with the band. So BGKO invited some of these musicians, these living legends, to play and record as a soloist in their concerts and new album. King of saxophone from Macedonia Ferus Mustafov, poet of gipsy music Vlado Kreslin and Turkish jazz singer Nihan Devecioglu are featured as guests on this album. The energetic vibe of the first album is still very present, and these solo additions make it even more exciting.
