The name MECCA is synonymous with quality AOR and melodic rock. Each of the 3 albums released to date have been crafted over several years, with each song racking up a seriously impressive number of demos, alternative versions, re-writes and re-mixes before being labelled “done”…
Frontiers Records is proud to present “20 Years”, a best of collection assembling the works of Mecca, the classic AOR band started by vocalist Joe Vana. When he was only 13 years old, Joe Vana’s life was forever changed through a chance meeting with Survivor’s Jim Peterik. Jim taught him everything he knew about music and the music business. But, it wasn’t until he was 28 years old that he discovered his voice, which is when he became Peterik’s in-house demo singer for many years. Joe and Jim eventually created a band called Project Voyager, which ultimately morphed into Mecca. In 2002, Mecca released their debut self-titled album, which featured David Hungate (ex-Toto) on bass, Shannon Forrest on drums, Fergie Frederiksen (ex-Toto) and Joe on vocals, Mike Aquino on guitars and Jimmy Nichols on keyboards. “Mecca” created a sonic treasure that was more than well-received by the Melodic Rock/AOR community.
Frontiers Records is proud to present “Everlasting”, the brand new studio album from Mecca, the classic AOR band founded by vocalist Joe Vana. "Everlasting" is the first new Mecca album since 2016 and sees Vana returning to the classic AOR style he is known, admired, and loved for.
Lou Mecca is one of the great jazz guitarists that came up through the late 40's and early 50's. At a time when players like Johnny Smith & Tal Farlow were setting the standards, it is a measure of Mecca's enormous guitar talent that he not only landed a recording contract with Blue Note, but also replaced Farlow in the Gil Melle Quartet. Indeed, his sensitive and insightful playing on the Melle Quartet sessions contributed much to the success of these historically important recordings. Mecca disappeared from the public eye for several years but, like Farlow, continued to play, albeit infrequently. THE LOU MECCA TRIO - BRIDGING THE GAP puts one in mind of the best of Johnny Smith & Tal Farlow recordings. Lou has it all covered. This CD confirms what a handful of enthusiast have always known, that Lou Mecca is a Jazz guitar great.
Originally issued on three 10-inch LPs, these albums feature three outstanding but underrated jazz guitarists: Lou Mecca, Bill de Arango and Chuck Wayne. Crisp, inventive and fleet-fingered, Mecca found his own voice from his main inspiration, Tal Farlow, whom he replaced in the Gil Mellé Quartet. Lous classical guitar sound is complemented in this 1954 Blue Note recording by fine vibist Jack Hitchcock, bassist Vinnie Burke and drummer Jimmy Campbell.
In 1981, Cabaret Voltaire released their fourth vinyl album, Red Mecca. The album did not produce any singles but the album did reach the #1 spot on the U.K. indie albums chart.

De Arango, among the first of the modern jazz guitarists in 52nd Streets heyday, hadnt recorded for a while when he made his album for EmArcy in 1954. His full sound, great swing and consistently imaginative power were in the Charlie Christian tradition, but, as this date proves, he was also very individual…
