For Molly Burch, the age 13 was a seminal moment in life that has shaped the path that she is on now. Burch's fourth album, Daydreamer, explores the feelings and insecurities of this critical stage. Burch has recently relocated to her hometown of Los Angeles, but while she was still residing in Austin, she visited home and did that thing our parents love to have us do: rummage through old boxes to see what shit we can throw away. Upon finding her old diaries from age 13 and younger, Burch was brought to tears. Realizing how cruel she was to herself then, and how she still harbors many of those same self-critiques. It was this visit that forced her to take responsibility for where she was currently at in life, anxiety and body issues and all, and to try to let go of old habits.

The award for being the best band to imitate Molly Hatchet is….Molly Hatchet. On this 25th Anniversary re-recording of the band's biggest hits - and best tracks from each of their albums, from their self-titled debut to Lightning Strikes Twice - the current incarnation of MH, led by guitarist and producer Bobby Ingram, offers startlingly faithful reads of the original band's material. What makes this so unique is that there are no original members of MH in this lineup, and singer Phil McCormack sounds so much like founding vocalist Danny Brown it's almost scary. Admittedly, with this description, it is tempting to write the Hatch off without a listen, but that would be a mistake. These are not reinterpretations of the classics, nor are they toothless renderings…

This CD is a journey through the old American songbook of folk, Appalachian, Shaker and fiddle tunes. Imagine going into the backwoods of rural America where life is more laid back, and you get the flavor of this CD. Flutist Sir James Galway is joined by folk singer Molly Mason and Bluegrass fiddler Jay Ungar, who are accompanied by mandolinist Peter Ostroushko and bassist Steve Rust, with percussionist Michael Merenda lending his talents to a rousing fiddle tune. Most of these songs are meticulously arranged and crafted by Galway and Unger, which makes for a wonderful toe-tapping experience.
