Contents include a 2012 remaster of the original album, featuring non-album b-side, "When A Blind Man Cries"; a 1997 remix by bassist Roger Glover, remixed from the original multi-tracks; the Quad QS as stereo mix, in its undecoded form and including alternate guitar solos on 'Maybe I'm A Leo' and 'Lazy'; and a 2012 mix of In Concert '72. The audio only DVD that accompanies the set includes the original album remastered, "When a Blind Man Cries" remastered, the QUAD mix of the album and bonus 5.1 mixes of "When a Blind Man Cries", "Maybe I'm a Leo" and "Lazy".

Machine Head is the sixth Deep Purple studio album. It was recorded at the Grand Hotel Montreux, Switzerland in December 1971 with the Rolling Stones Mobile Studio, and released in May 1. The album is often cited as being very influential in the development of the heavy metal music genre. It is Deep Purple's most successful recording, topping the charts in several countries following its release. In 2001 Q magazine named it as one of the 50 Heaviest Albums of All Time. Machine Head is the subject of one of the Classic Albums series of documentaries about the making of famous albums. Machine Head was released on the multichannel formats Super Audio CD (2003) and DVD-Audio (2001).

Machine Fucking Head Live is the second live album from the Amercian heavy metal band Machine Head. The album is scheduled to be released on November 13, 2012, under Roadrunner Records. It was recorded at various tour stops across the globe last year during the bands world tour."The Head Cases [Machine Head's nickname for their fans] have been so intense on this tour cycle that we had to start capturing the shows, especially with technology making it so much easier to record," said frontman Robb Flynn. "We culled some of the best nights where the band and crowd were on fire and made a badass, nearly two-hour, double live album, which is a great documentation of where the band is at, 18 years deep
