“Grade 9 Up-Covering scientific, technological, and business aspects, this set offers a unique approach to its subject. Each alphabetically arranged volume has a different focus. The first, Space Business, covers current commercial activity in space, such as medical research, satellites, space law, business applications, and associated careers. Planetary Science and Astronomy has information on galaxies, stars, planets, and other celestial bodies. Space travel, vehicles, equipment, and explorers are covered in Humans in Space. The final volume, Our Future in Space, is highly speculative in its discussion of potential possibilities, technology, and conjectural ideas, such as faster-than-light travel, from science fiction writers, books, and movies. Biographical entries appear throughout the set. Articles include events and publications through 2001. Captioned color and black-and-white photos featuring people and equipment are informative, sometimes spectacular, although often small. Each table of contents covers the entire set and cross-references refer readers to articles in the other volumes. Glossary terms are highlighted in the text and defined in the margins as well. This encyclopedia set, part of the Macmillan Science Library series, is designed to accommodate middle-school students through college undergraduates. The work contains approximately 300 signed entries on a variety of topics relating to animal science, including animal development, functions, behavior, ecology, and evolution. The connection between animals and humans is also explored in entries such as Animal testing, Apiculture, and Domestic animals.

This supplement to the MacMillan Encyclopedia of Physics presents the most recent data on particle physics, a field that has seen many important breakthroughs since the publication of the parent set in 1996.

"Gr 10-Up Encyclopedic, in-depth treatment of plant-related topics from acid rain to wood products. While this set includes complex information (for example, how ATP synthase catalyzes ATP), it also offers basic facts on biomes, leaves, cells, individual scientists, related careers, and other subjects. The writing is clear and well organized, and depending on the topic, it's concise or very detailed. Highlighted words are defined in the wide margins and each entry provides see-also references and a brief bibliography. Most pages generally include a table, chart, photo, map, or labeled diagram that helps clarify even the most difficult topics. Volumes one to three conclude with individual indexes; volume four has a cumulative index. The set also contains a Geologic Timescale, a 16-page glossary, and a topic outline.
