Im Jahr 2020 noch eine kleine Raumstation ähnlich der ISS, wird aus Alpha schnell ein großer, um die Erde kreisender Komplex, der von Raumfahrern aller Nationen der Erde bewohnt wird. Im Jahr 2150 stoßen erste Außerirdische dazu. Bald schon erreicht die Station durch immer neue Anbauten und andockende Schiffe "eine kritische Masse", die das Kraftfeld der Erde beeinflusst, weshalb sie mit Schubtriebwerken in Richtung der Magellan-Wolke geschickt wird.
