Trials Of Eyeliner is the definitive overview of Marc Almond's career, and the fact that Almond himself has personally curated the collection, allied to the 189-strong track listing, suggests that this is no exaggeration. Neal X, Almond's longstanding writing partner/musical director (and former Sigue Sigue Sputnik guitarist), supervised mastering of the tracks recorded over five decades between 1979 and 2016. This anthology is divided into three themed sections.

CD1 kicks off with a run of Synth-Pop gems from established artists Orchestral Manoeuvres In The Dark, Blancmange, Gary Numan and Talk Talk alongside some newer bands, The Lotus Eaters, Freur and After The Fire… Japan released a live instrumental, and Yello, Divine, Rockers Revenge and Freeez presented fantastic club tracks. The second disc opens with a stunning collection of Indiesingles from Bauhaus, Marc And The Mambas, The Stranglers and The Glove – featuring members of both The Cure and Siouxsie And The Banshees! CD3 features some huge and long-established superstars Billy Joel with the stunning opener Goodnight Saigon, Bonnie Tyler, Lionel Richie, Mike Oldfield, The Kinks, Olivia Newton-John and U.S. hit for Kenny Rogers and Sheena Easton with a cover of Bob Seger’s ‘We’ve Got Tonite’.

London 1982. As the new romantic youthquake of 1981/1982 faded, and after what felt like a lifetime since punk’s last gasp, a tiny nightclub opened its doors in London’s Soho. Drawing to it a new generation of misfits and miscreants with a penchant for polysexual hedonism, for dressing up and showing out, The Batcave became the dark heart of alternative club culture, just like The Roxy and The Blitz before it.Art school students, ex-punks and psychobillys, boys and girls, gays, straights, don’t-knows and don’t-cares, Camden and Kensington Market stallholders, professional squatters, kids on the dole, kids in bands, nocturnal music journalists, edgy fashionistas, androgynous randoms and even a smattering of bona fide popstars – from Nick Cave to Siouxsie Sioux, Marc Almond, Robert Smith, Killing Joke and Sigue Sigue Sputnik.
