Two countertenors for Pergolesis Stabat Mater: this is the resurrection of the first performance in France of this work, introduced by two Italian Castratos from the Royal Chapel of Louis XV, who were enthusiastic propagators of it both at Court and at the Concert Spirituel. Paris was conquered and saw in it the revolutionary mark of a Neapolitan genius, who alas passed away so young. Pergolesi, shortly before his death at the age of 26 and affected by illness, expressed the Virgins suffering with the language of passion more typical of opera.

François Dieupart is an intriguing composer of the early 18th century and a pioneer of the repertoire, even before Couperin and Rameau, a precursor of the "Goûts Réunis" whose grace already heralded the Regency. Closely associated with the English court exiled in France, Dieupart travelled to England at the turn of the century where he stayed for three decades.
Drawing on French and Italian styles, his music remains eminently personal, full of delicacy and freshness of tone. First performed in 1702, his new style of music enjoyed a lasting success throughout Europe, even inspiring Bach: Marie van Rhijn reveals its secret enchantments.

For her first solo disc, Marie van Rhijn brings together two of her passions: the French vocal repertoire of the "tragedie lyrique" and the music for the viola da gamba. This program explorers the musical colors of King Louis XIV's court. Sometimes orchestral and at other times intimate, these works are beautifully performed by Rhijn on a rare harpsichord from 1679, which has never been recorded before.

Élisabeth Jacquet de La Guerre has no reason to be ashamed to finally find herself alongside Chambonnières and Couperin in the discography devoted to the 17th century harpsichord. This is what the scholarly booklet of this new album tells us. Almost unknown today, yet she enjoyed a great reputation during her lifetime. And for good reason. Her inspired compositions exploit all the registers of the harpsichord, giving generosity and brightness to her works.

The surviving musical edition of Dutch Golden Age Renaissance Man, Constantijn Huygens, receives a fresh new recording issued on Glossa from a singer who has become a connoisseur of vocal music from the seventeenth century: Cyril Auvity. The remarkable Huygens, alive for much of that century, was a poet, composer and musician whose day job was as a diplomat working for the Princes of Orange and who was an assiduous correspondent with leading thinkers such as Descartes, Rubens and Corneille. Huygens 'Pathodia sacra et profana' encompasses a collection of songs in Italian, French and Latin whose simplicity belies the complexity of the emotions carried within them.
