Martha Argerich Edition: Chamber Music

Both hailing from Buenos Aires, Argentina, pianists Martha Argerich and Daniel Barenboim are not only fellow countrymen; as child prodigies they both began to give concerts in their youth, as soloists and with an orchestra, and both have gone on to establish long, distinguished global careers as virtuoso pianists in addition to branching out to other equally distinguished activities of considerable and noteworthy impact within and outside the classical music world, including but not limited to for either or both, conducting, competition jurists, festival founders and humanitarian causes. In the musical realm, their particular, common interest in chamber music performance led these two musical eminences and ambassadors to concertize together, as seen here on EuroArts DVD offering Piano Duos, featuring works by Mozart, Schubert and Stravinsky.

The box comprises all (live) recordings made by Martha Argerich at the Lugano Festival, from 2002 to the last edition in 2016, and released by EMI Classics and Warner Classics. An impressive collection of 22CDs without equivalent. It includes a variety of genres: some solo piano music, lots of music for piano duo and among them many arrangements, chamber works and concertos.

28th December 2012 marks the 75th Anniversary of the death of Maurice Ravel, the great French composer, best-known for his beautiful melodies, orchestral & instrumental textures and mesmeric compositional effects.
Many consumers will know Ravel through his masterpieces, such as: Boléro, Pavane pour une infant défunte, Rapsodie espagnole, Gaspard de la nuit, Ma Mère l’oye, Daphnis et Chloë, Le Tombeau de Couperin and La Valse.

Pianist Khatia Buniatishvili was signed to the Sony Classical label in her early 20s after a series of major competition prizes and began a top-level international career. She has said that some of her interpretations are influenced by Georgian folk music. Buniatishvili's international renown comes in large part from her recordings. She was signed to the Sony Classical label and released her debut album, Khatia Buniatishvili Plays Franz Liszt, in 2011. Her 2012 release, Chopin, won the Echo Klassik Young Artists' Award. Buniatishvili has remained on Sony's roster, recording mostly core virtuoso 19th and early 20th century repertory. In 2020, she released the recital Labyrinth, featuring an eclectic program ranging from Bach to Philip Glass and Serge Gainsbourg. Buniatishvili lives in Paris.
