“Unquestionably one of the greatest pianists of all time” is how Gramophone magazine has described Martha Argerich. Her relationship with Warner Classics goes back to 1965 and her victory at the International Chopin Competition in Warsaw. Over several decades it has produced a rich catalogue of live and studio recordings, embracing a repertoire that spans three centuries, a diversity of genres, and collaborations with such figures as Renaud Capuçon, Charles Dutoit, Nelson Freire, Nikolaus Harnoncourt, Gidon Kremer, Mischa Maisky and Itzhak Perlman.

April 1st: 150th anniversary of Sergei Rachmaninov. To celebrate this event, we have chosen the hundred best pieces from our rich catalogue to highlight the genius of the Russian composer, who was deeply inspired by the great Romantics Chopin and Tchaikovsky, and whose moving music was imbued with his inner torments and his suffering from exile. All the great works (symphonies, concertos, sacred choral music, chamber works, romances, solo piano) are represented in this collection, some complete, some as extracts. Performing artists include André Previn, Hélène Grimaud, Nikolai Lugansky, Simon Rattle, Gautier Capuçon, the Choir of King’s College, Natalie Dessay, Martha Argerich, Alexandre Tharaud and many more.

Comprehensive overview of the piano repertoire in classic performances! Super-budget pricing: 50 CDs for less than the price of 6! Includes all the major concertos, sonatas and other solo works. An obvious and quite reasonable question about this set is just how did Decca come to produce this diverse set of recordings involving so many high quality pianists? The most likely way – to simply box 50 previously produced disks – does appear to have been the main method used, but perhaps not always.
