Mathematical Modelling of Physical Systems by Michel Cessenat
English | PDF(True) | 2018 | 517 Pages | ISBN : 3319947575 | 5.4 MB

Comprehensive and thorough, this monograph emphasizes the main role differential geometry and convex analysis play in the understanding of physical, chemical, and mechanical notions. Central focus is placed on specifying the agreement between the functional framework and its physical necessity and on making clear the intrinsic character of physical elements, independent from specific charts or frames. The book is divided into four sections, covering thermostructure, classical mechanics, fluid mechanics modelling, and behavior laws. An extensive appendix provides notations and definitions as well as brief explanation of integral manifolds, symplectic structure, and contact structure. Plenty of examples are provided throughout the book, and reviews of basic principles in differential geometry and convex analysis are presented as needed. This book is a useful resource for graduate students and researchers in the field.

Mathematical Modelling and Simulation of Electrical Circuits and Semiconductor Devices

Mathematical Modelling and Simulation of Electrical Circuits and Semiconductor Devices: Proceedings of a Conference held at the Mathematisches Forschungsinstitut, Oberwolfach, October 30 – November 5, 1988 by R. E. Bank, K. Merten, R. Bulirsch
English | PDF | 1990 | 298 Pages | ISBN : 3034857004 | 21.8 MB

Numerical simulation and modelling of electric circuits and semiconductor devices are of primal interest in today's high technology industries. At the Oberwolfach Conference more than forty scientists from around the world, in cluding applied mathematicians and electrical engineers from industry and universities, presented new results in this area of growing importance. The contributions to this conference are presented in these proceedings. They include contributions on special topics of current interest in circuit and device simulation, as well as contributions that present an overview of the field. In the semiconductor area special lectures were given on mixed finite element methods and iterative procedures for the solution of large linear systems. For three dimensional models new discretization procedures including software packages were presented. Con nections between semiconductor equations and the Boltzmann equation were shown as well as relations to the quantum transport equation. Other issues discussed in this area include the design of simulation programs for semiconductors, vectorcomputers, and interface problems in several dimensions.

Phenomenological and Mathematical Modelling of Structural Instabilities By Marcello Pignataro, Victor Gioncu
English | PDF | 2005 | 346 Pages | ISBN : 3211252924 | 19.25 MB

The study of structural instability plays a role of primary importance in the field of applied mechanics. Despite the remarkable progresses made in the recent past years, the structural instability remains one of the most challenging topics in applied - chanics. Many problems have bee:: solved in the last decades but still many others remain to be solved satisfactorily. The increasing number of papers published in jo- nals and conferences organized by ECCS, SSRC, IUTAM, and EUROMECH strongly indicates the interest of scientists and engineers in the subject.

Mathematical Modelling and Nonstandard Schemes for the Corona Virus Pandemic

Mathematical Modelling and Nonstandard Schemes for the Corona Virus Pandemic by Sarah Marie Treibert
English | EPUB | 2022 | 260 Pages | ISBN : 3658359315 | 22.9 MB

This book deals with the prediction of possible future scenarios concerning the COVID-19 pandemic. Based on the well-known SIR model by Kermack and McKendrick a compartment model is established. This model comprises its own assumptions, transition rates and transmission dynamics, as well as a corresponding system of ordinary differential equations. Making use of numerical methods and a nonstandard-finite-difference scheme, two submodels are implemented in Matlab in order to make parameter estimations and compare different scenarios with each other.

Advancing and Consolidating Mathematical Modelling: Research from ICME-14 by Gilbert Greefrath, Susana Carreira, Gloria Ann Stillman
English | PDF,EPUB | 2023| 346 Pages | ISBN : 3031271149 | 28 MB

This edited volume presents applications and modelling as a world-renowned sub-field of research in mathematics education. It includes the discussion on students’ development of modelling competency through the teaching of applications and modelling. The teaching of mathematical modelling is considered from different perspectives, such as mathematical, pedagogical-didactical perspectives and critical-societal or socio-political perspectives. Assessment practices (local, regional or international) of modelling activities and difficulties with modelling activities at school and university levels, respectively, are discussed. Use of technology and other resources in modelling activities and their impact on the modelling processes are included in the considerations. Teaching practices, teacher education and professional development programs concerning the integration of applications and modelling in school and university mathematics programs are developed in this context.a

Mathematical Biology II: Spatial Models and Biomedical Applications

Mathematical Biology II: Spatial Models and Biomedical Applications by J. D. Murray
English | PDF(True) | 2003 | 834 Pages | ISBN : 0387952284 | 15.8 MB

It has been over a decade since the release first edition of the now classic original edition of Murray's Mathematical Biology. Since then mathematical biology and medicine has grown at an astonishing rate and has established itself as a distinct discipline. Mathematical modelling is now being applied in every major discipline in the biomedical sciences. Though the field has become increasingly large and specialized, this book remains important as a text that introduces some of the exciting problems which arise in the biomedical sciences and gives some indication of the wide spectrum of questions that modelling can address.
