For many professional musicians, often a moment in time or an influential person that sets the path for one to take a leap into the long desire and urge to take their craft as serious as need to be to become that musician they so desire. For Croatian pianist Matija Dedic, that moment, that person was his father, Arsen Dedic. It was Arsen’s influence and encouragement that made Matija take that step and it was his gift of a recording of Keith Jarrett’s Koln Concert that put Matija on the path to creative and jazz music.

The classically trained, Croatian born pianist Matija Dedic’ certainly wears his Euro-classical heritage on his sleeve, and why not? Putting that heritage together with a potent American rhythm section can be an exciting collision of Old World jazz with New World jazz.

Navona Records proudly presents 4 Seasons for 3 Pianos, a whirlwind transcription of Vivaldi’s masterful string concertos by Croatian pianist and composer Matej Meštrovic. Performing with Hakan A. Toker and Matija Dedic on three pianos (and accordion), Meštrovic thoroughly reimagines the four concertos, his work exceeding that of a normal transcription. The collection, in such a radical new form, becomes almost a whole new work. Despite this, Meštrovic’s version of this piece is, ironically, historically informed in its own way. Vivaldi’s Venice was part of a republic that spread from the Italian city, across Dalmatia (present-day Croatia), to the borders of the Ottoman Empire in what is now Bosnia and Herzegovina.

"Ligheryan Rhapsody", the new album by the croatian pianist and composer Matija Dedić that arrives at his first solo work after fifteen years of intense recording activity. The idea of the album was born spontaneously by some piano improvisations during recording sessions while he was working with other projects. After three successive improvisation’s sessions the music takes shape in eleven piano solo songs that would make the track list. The compositions appear as a deep reflection on improvised music, the world in which the author perceives the existence to its full expression, and at the same time a tribute to composers of contemporary music who influenced him along his artistic career.

Robert Schumann considered Peter Joseph von Lindpaintner the most promising operatic composer in the country, yet despite his 21 operas he has been almost forgotten. Like most leading German composers of his time he took Meyerbeer's historical grand operas, conceived in Paris, as his model. Set in Sicily at the dawn of the 1848 revolution, Il vespro siciliano ('Die sizilianische Vesper' / 'The Sicilian Vespers') is a dramatic four-act opera that reveals why he was held in such esteem by Schumann, Spohr and Mendelssohn: expressive harmonies, folksong-like strophic songs, rich orchestration, the use of the latest stylistic devices, and tuneful bel canto melodies that point to the work's Franco-Italian lineage.
