Now in its 25 th Anniversary season, the “engaging” (New Yorker) men’s vocal ensemble Cantus is widely known for its trademark warmth and blend, innovative programming and riveting performances of music ranging from the Renaissance to the 21st century.

Cantus first conceived of this conceptual concert in 2016, intending to reflect the tension in our modern society between technological connectedness and human longing for genuine in-person interaction. We’ve never been able to communicate as quickly or efficiently across distance through the internet and social media.

The vocal ensemble Cantus Thuringia, dedicates itself in different occupations to the repertoire of the 16th to the 18th century: from the quartet to the chamber choir, the professional singers are able to create an adequate ensemble sound according to the music.

The Yggdrasil is the world tree in Norse mythology, and our Yggdrasil musical project started as the idea of reaching out to composers from near and far, as if travelling along the branches of the tree, and it embraced the concept of gathering around the tree as a common theme.

Cantus was founded in 1986 by a group of teenage girls who wanted to sing in a choir where they themselves could be in charge. More than 20 years later, Cantus is still a choir which likes to follow its own ideas. A lucky strike led to the crossing of the paths of the newly founded choir and the young singer and conductor Tove Ramlo. Tove became Cantus’ first, and so far, only conductor.
