This CD is a compilation of The 5.6.7.8's early tracks & rare singles.
The 5.6.7.8's formed in Tokyo in 1986. The band embraces retro American hot rod culture and a rockabilly breed of garage rock that shares ascetics with the Cramps. The band has a maintained a strong cult following since their incept, but has never catered to the mainstream. They play a mixture of cover versions and originals, always fraught with style and attitude. Despite only releasing albums on indie labels, and selling in modest quantities, they have fans all over the world and have toured internationally since 1992. Through their extensive touring they are in touch with many like-minded bands and labels, and their tracks can be found on many compilations.
The Afrobeat legend Tony Allen died in the spring of 2020 at the age of 79. The year prior, the iconic drummer wrote and produced all of the beats for a newly announced album: There Is No End is out on April 30, the anniversary of Allen’s death, via Blue Note. There Is No End was produced by Allen, Vincent Taeger, and Vincent Taurelle. The 14-track LP features guest vocals from Danny Brown, Sampa the Great, Lava La Rue, and more. Today, Blue Note has released lead single “Cosmosis” (featuring Skepta and Ben Okiri), which is co-produced by Allen, Damon Albarn, and Remi Kabaka.
