2014 twelve CD set. To celebrate the 50th anniversary of Simon & Garfunkel's first release on Columbia Records in 1964, THE COMPLETE ALBUMS COLLECTION provides a fascinating career-spanning overview of the iconic folk-rock duo. Here for the first time in one package is Simon & Garfunkel's complete discography: their five studio albums for Columbia released between 1964 and 1970; the multiplatinum albums THE GRADUATE (the soundtrack to the 1967 film of the same name which first featured the duo's classic 'Mrs. Robinson') and Simon & Garfunkel's GREATEST HITS (the 1972 compilation that, with 14 million albums shipped, remains the duo's most popular); and four live albums recorded between 1967 and 2004, including 1982's THE CONCERT IN CENTRAL PARK (the group's first activity since their dissolution in 1970), OLD FRIENDS: LIVE ON STAGE, a double-disc account of their acclaimed 2003-2004 reunion tour, and two archival live sets: LIVE FROM NEW YORK CITY, 1967 (recorded at Lincoln Center and featuring the duo performing an intimate acoustic set) and LIVE 1969 (featuring recordings from Simon & Garfunkel's final tour).

Carly Simon: No Secrets is presented on audio Blu-ray courtesy of Rhino Music, and while there is an AVC encoded 1:78:1 "image", this is another Rhino release that features a static menu. All of the simultaneously released Atmos / Quad offerings from Rhino this time have the same conceit of having the track playing in one color, with another color showing up if you use your arrow buttons to move down through the track list. In this case, the track playing highlights in blue, and if you use your arrow buttons to move through the track, the titles turn black as you move down the list (until one is chosen, at which point it changes to blue), but otherwise there are no "moving parts". (I might just slightly joke that this "black and blue" approach may recall another kind of edgy Simon tune, "After the Storm", which alludes to some perhaps questionable violence in a relationship.) While that part of the disc authoring between the four simultaneous releases is consistent, unfortunately toggling between codecs isn't among this quartet.

Simon and Garfunkel are undoubtedly one of the most successful songwriting duos of the 60s, reaching a similar level of popularity to the Beatles during the latter part of the decade. This Definite Collection shows what a diverse duo they really were and how many memorable tunes they performed together. Though many were put off by the pair's more sterile folk-rock arrangements and clean choirboy harmonies, this collection shows that there was much more to their artistic palette. Songs such as "Homeward Bound", "I Am a Rock", "Cecilia" and "Mrs Robinson" all show that the duo could rock with the best of them and "The Sound of Silence" and "Bridge over Troubled Water" are just some of the beautifully timeless records the pair gave us. It may not be as definitive as it claims but this is a great collection featuring some of their best and most well known works.
