Melisa Erkurt

Born in 1982, he began his musical studies in his hometown Aveiro (Portugal). In 2003 he moved to Barcelona to study at Taller de Músics, where he studied harmony, musical language, piano and combo. In 2009 he continued his training at the Superior Conservatory of the Liceu in Barcelona, where he received classes from Marc Miralta and Ramon Prats, finishing his degree in 2013. Since his arrival in Barcelona he has played in numerous festivals and clubs, highlighting the Barcelona International Jazz Festival, the Jazz Festival of Vic and the Jazz Cava de Terrassa. He has played, recorded and collaborated with Jazz Trio Mosaic, Minkowski Group, Ari Ann Wire, Atom Quartet, Raynald Colom, Dani Perez, Sabina Witt, Ernesto Llorens, Gilad Chatsav and others.

Between Istanbul's sordid neighborhoods and a destitute border village, close to the city, Hamit, drives back and forth. He works for Ali, a charcoal dealer-cum-human trafficker, carrying charcoal one way and illegal immigrants the other way. Young and meek Mehmet helps the two in their dealings and is usually torn between them during their power struggles. Hamit feels stuck in this desolate village. Being subordinate to Ali and sharing a rundown room with Mehmet is not what he had expected from life. Once, he himself tried to escape, but failed to achieve the 'dream life', which intensifies his frustration. His only comfort is an older woman, Denise, a foreign botanist who works at the local research center. They meet secretly in a cottage by the sea and make love to the crashing sound of the waves.
