Melody Gardot

Heitor Teixeira Pereira (born November 29, 1960), or Heitor TP, is a Brazilian musician, who played with Simply Red and several famous musicians like Elton John, Rod Stewart, K.D. lang and Jack Johnson and is currently working as a film music composer at Hans Zimmer's studio.

"The Absence" is the sultry third album from GRAMMY-nominated singer-songwriter, Melody Gardot. The recording was produced by Heitor Pereira, known for his work as a session guitarist (Seal, Sting) and a renowned film composer (Despicable Me, It’s Complicated, From Prada to Nada). The pair shares a passion for creating rich sonic innovations through the sounds of Western pop, blues, jazz and soul. Woven with intricate guitars, silky strings and flutes, the album incorporates influences from exotic locales like Morocco, Buenos Aires and Brazil.

Equally evocative moments follow, as on the yearning "You Won't Forget Me," in which Gardot balances a wry cabaret theatricality à la Marlene Dietrich with a tangible sadness that never feels anything but real. Elsewhere, she gently wades into a handful of earthy bossa nova songs, including a gorgeously attenuated reading of the Ella Fitzgerald number "C'est Magnifique" featuring Brazilian singer António Zambujo and a crackling take of Marco Paulo's "Ninguem, Ninguem" that she sings in Portuguese. We also get a movie theme-ready version of "From Paris with Love," as well as memorable takes on classics like "Moon River" and "I Fall in Love Too Easily."
