Following up 2008's The Sinatra Project, Michael Feinstein's 2011 The Sinatra Project, Vol. 2: The Good Life features more of the urbane and polished singer/pianist's takes on Ol' Blue Eyes' catalog. Featuring both large and small ensembles, here Feinstein takes on a nice selection of both well-known and lesser-known cuts that Sinatra tackled at some point in his storied career. Included are such stand-out numbers as the big-band rhumba piece "Sway," the swinging medley "Luck Be a Lady/All I Need Is the Girl," and the romantic orchestral ballad "The Way You Look Tonight." While Feinstein is a pleasant vocalist, he's less of a dynamic crooner than Sinatra and not surprisingly, the best tracks here are the more intimate ones that find him accompanying himself on piano, as with the autumnal "C'est Comme Ca" and the poignant "I'll Be Around." Longtime Feinstein fans should find much to enjoy on this impeccably crafted homage to Sinatra. ~ AllMusic Review by Matt Collar

Michael Feinstein has built a career out of interpreting standards and favorites from the American Songbook, so THE SINATRA PROJECT, an album of tunes made famous by Ol' Blue Eyes, comes as no surprise. Rather than trying to imitate Sinatra, Feinstein takes pains to arrange and deliver standbys like "Fools Rush In," "I've Got a Crush On You," and "You Go To My Head" in a style distinctive from the master. Romantic, sophisticated, and filled with nostalgia, Feinstein's THE SINATRA PROJECT is both a suitable tribute to the icon, and a lovely listening experience in its own right.

Rockin' takes The Guess Who into a new direction in 1972 primarily featuring the songwriting of Burton Cummings, striding away from their bread and butter Top 40 hit parade. But this album never received the same level of notoriety as the first four Guess Who albums, including the first one without Randy Bachman, Share the Land. This strange exercise has its best parts showing up on The Best of the Guess Who, Vol. 2, which is now restored on Hybrid Quad SACD from the original masters by Michael J. Dutton.

Michael Kelly, the Irish tenor who was the original stammering Don Curzio in Mozart's The Marriage of Figaro, tells us in his Reminiscences about the occasion and we are delighted that the world-famous actor, Simon Russell Beale, has recorded a script for us, adapted from Kelly, which sets the scene.

But every so often his former label, Columbia Records, would get something together on LP from among his '40s and early-'50s sides. The Voice was one of a handful of '50s long-players showcasing the first phase of Sinatra's solo career, and at the time it wowed listeners - the focus is on the ballads, and the dozen represented here constitute a bumper crop of classics, all resplendent in the singer's richest, most overpowering intonation and most delicately nuanced work. The sensibilities, from the lushly seductive "Laura" to the gently self-satisfied "(I Got a Woman Crazy for Me) She's Funny That Way," show off a huge emotional range, and the latter song may be the highlight of the album…
