“Dreams of Reason Produce Monsters is Mick Karn's second solo album and features him playing a variety of woodwinds and basses, as well as keyboards and drums. The songs are marked by plodding drum tracks colored with simple contrapuntal keyboard and woodwind figures: of the instrumental tracks, only "The Three Fates" escapes this martial treatment. The two tracks that feature lyrics and vocals (by David Sylvian, Karn's former bandmate in Japan) are the most memorable. They emphasize the interplay between Karn's sinuous fretless playing and Sylvian's sonorous voice to good effect. ”Review on allmusic.com

I'm biased by the fact that I feel JBK can do no wrong musically, though their work does not always strike a chord with my personal moods, this album is an exception. The idea is a novel one, and the result, superb. Jansen-Barbieri-Karn performing live some of their best material. One can almost say it is like a live Japan album minus Sylvian on vocals, as they cover material from each of their own repertoires, including a Rain Tree Crow piece. From the pulsating electro-atmospheric opener "Walkabout" by Barbieri, ending with the downbeat track "Types of Ambiguity" by Jansen, every number is a gem and performed with the utmost of professionality and originality. Expect no less from this trio.

Rain Tree Crow is the result of a collaboration between former Japan members David Sylvian and Mick Karn. Sylvian and Karn teamed with keyboardist Richard Barbieri and Steve Jansen, adding guitarists Phil Palmer and Bill Nelson for their self-titled debut. Like a mellower, new age-oriented version of Japan, Rain Tree Crow explores stark soundscapes that sound alternately beautiful and desolate. Although it is a bit too challenging to provide a good introduction to Sylvian and Karn's music, the album remains fascinating for their fans.

The Now That’s What I Call Music team are effectively issuing a companion 3CD set to Now Yearbook 1980-1984: The Final Chapter, itself a companion to the ten previous Yearbook releases covering those five years. The ‘Extra’ version of Yearbook 1980-1984 is, as usual, a 3CD set in a card sleeve and this one features 63 “essential hits” from the period. Remarkably, the early 1980s can handle what is in effect a ‘fourth level’ of examination (Yearbook > Yearbook Extra > Final Chapter > Final Chapter Extra) and this is far from ‘the dregs’ of the era with loads of classic pop hits from Queen, Eurythmics, Pretenders, Elvis Costello, The Smiths, Daryl Hall and John Oates, Japan, Heaven 17, Level 42, Nik Kershaw, XTC, Elton John and more.

No-Man – Loveblows And Lovecries

This is where it all started folks!!! This is No-Man's debut album. It was released in the UK by One Little Indian Records label in May, 1993, and in a slightly different format in the US on 550 Music in May, 1994. "Taking It Like a Man", a single taken from the US version of the album reached number 34 on the Billboard Dance Chart in April 1994 and was used on the US TV drama, Models, Inc. Critically lauded at the time of its release, the album was considered by the likes of UK magazines Melody Maker and Lime Lizard as an intriguing combination of art-rock ambition, synth-pop textures, and infectious pop hooks.

Japan's evolution from rather humble glam rock beginnings into stylish synth pop (and beyond) made the British group one of the more intriguing and successful artists of their era. Formed in London in 1974, Japan began its existence as a quintet comprised of singer/songwriter David Sylvian, bassist Mick Karn, keyboardist Richard Barbieri, drummer (and Sylvian's brother) Steve Jansen and guitarist Rob Dean…

Dalis Car - The Waking Hour (1984)

After disbanding Bauhaus in 1983, Murphy formed Dali's Car with former Japan member Mick Karn. Dali's Car only released one album, The Waking Hour, in 1984. Following its release, the duo broke up and Murphy hesitatingly began a solo career with a cover of Magazine's "The Light Pours Out of Me," which was featured on a 1985 Beggars Banquet compilation called The State of Things.
