Per oltre quarant'anni nessuno ha mai sospettato che Anthony Sawoniuk, tranquillo controllore ferroviario della stazione di Londra, fosse uno spietato criminale, un mostro senza pietà. Nato in un piccolo paese dell'odierna Bielorussia, abitato da una maggioranza di persone di religione ebraica, Sawoniuk, di madre polacca e padre ignoto, si arruolò immediatamente dopo l'invasione nazista nella polizia tedesca incaricata di rastrellamenti ed esecuzioni degli ebrei. Durante tutti gli anni del secondo conflitto mondiale si macchiò di orrendi crimini di guerra, tradendo e uccidendo persone con cui aveva trascorso infanzia e giovinezza. Nel 1946, una volta finita la guerra, riuscì a stabilirsi nel Regno Unito dichiarandosi un patriota polacco e, grazie a un'errata trascrizione del nome, a far perdere le sue tracce..

La mancanza di monsoni negli anni dal 1876 al 1879 scatenò in buona parte dell'Asia e dell'America Latina una serie ripetuta di gravi siccità, il cui impatto sulla società agricola dell'epoca fu immenso. Le carestie che flagellarono la regione furono le peggiori che avessero mai colpito l'umanità. Più di cinquanta milioni di contadini morirono di fame e di malattia. Aree un tempo verdeggianti si trasformarono in deserti e la mortalità in alcune zone del mondo, dall'Etiopia alla Cina al Brasile, raggiunse i picchi di un olocausto nucleare. Mike Davis ha ricostruito questa tragedia, pressoché ignorata dalla storia ufficiale. Difficilmente però la natura da sola avrebbe potuto produrre una simile catastrofe..

As executive producers, Cyrus and Mike Will Made It collaborated with hip hop producers including Cirkut, Pharrell Williams, and will.i.am to achieve Cyrus' desired new sound.
