Seit gut drei Jahrzehnten ist Starcellist Mischa Maisky Exklusivkünstler der Deutschen Grammophon und nahm in dieser Zeit mehr als 40 Alben auf, darunter viele Konzerte mit den Berliner und Wiener Philharmonikern, der Israel Philharmonic oder dem Orpheus Chamber Orchestra und mit Dirigenten wie Leonard Bernstein, Zubin Mehta oder Giuseppe Sinopoli. Unter seinen zahlreichen Kammermusikeinspielungen ist besonders seine langjährige Partnerschaft mit Martha Argerich zu erwähnen, neben Aufnahmen mit vielen anderen bedeutenden Solisten wie Lang Lang, Sergio Tiempo und Gidon Kremer. Maiskys Diskografie auf dem Gelben Label ist ein Kompendium des klassischen Cello-Repertoires, enthält jedoch auch weniger Bekanntes sowie Arrangements für Cello.
