Ronnie Earl recorded Surrounded by Love with a new version of the Broadcasters. The most notable factor of the new lineup is the reappearance of Sugar Ray Norcia, the finest vocalist/harpist Earl ever recorded with. The band sounds tight and energetic, especially on the three tracks they cut with Robert Lockwood. Jr.. Parts of the album are a little slow, but the album is very entertaining, even with its minor flaws. [Hepcat's 2008 reissue included two bonus selections.]

Not all the singles are here, but The Singles does include 18 of Daryl Hall & John Oates' best-known songs. It covers the mid-‘70s (beginning with 1974’s “She’s Gone”) through the late ‘80s (ending with 1988’s “Everything Your Heart Desires”) and contains 15 of the duo’s 16 Top Ten singles; “Did It in a Minute” is the lone omission in that respect…

Modern Talking was a German dance pop duo consisting of Thomas Anders and Dieter Bohlen. Genre-wise they were often classified under Europop. Modern Talking, who by sales are the most successful and popular group in Germany, have had a number of hit singles reaching the top-5 in many countries. Some of their most popular and widely known singles are "You're My Heart, You're My Soul", "You Can Win If You Want", "Cheri Cheri Lady", "Brother Louie", "Atlantis Is Calling (S.O.S. for Love)" and "Geronimo's Cadillac". Modern Talking's first period of activity was from 1984 to 1987. The duo reunified in 1998 and made a successful comeback, releasing more music from 1998 to 2003.

Mention the style “cool jazz” to a music fan and most likely their first thought will be of Chet Baker or Dave Brubeck. All well and good, but there was a cat who came before them who actually laid the groundwork for the style. That was Gerry Mulligan, the baritone saxophonist, arranger, and composer whose original piano-less quartet introduced Baker to the world, and who was also present at the early Miles Davis BIRTH OF THE COOL sessions.
