Mohican

Orango, Norway's melodic classic rock powerhouse, has returned with a new studio album. On Mohican, the trio of Helge Bredeli Kanck, Trond Slåke and Hallvard Gaardløs - along with some special guests - dish up ten tracks that prove they're far from running out of steam, no matter what the world throws at them.

This ambitious collection aims to include a diverse roster of contemporary North and South American Native musicians. The album begins with music by Canadian Inuit and Montagnais Indians, and spans America with tracks from Apache, Mohican, and Ute musicians. South American Zapotec, Amazon, and Andean musicians round out the album. In addition to the mournful flutes and driving drums you might expect to hear, there are violins, guitars, and keyboards present in some songs. These musicians express their traditional Native values mixed with pop music influences. Tracks like "Wind River" by Andrew Varquez of the Apache are more traditional and contain only melodic flute and express a longing for the days when "gas stations, supermarkets, waffle houses" were not present in the Indian world, and there were no official boundaries or fences restricting their people.

This documentary follows Wildlife cameraman Colin Stafford Johnson, as he returns to the Indonesian paradise island of Sulawesi to film the now very rare crested black macaque, 25 years after he first filmed them. The crested black macaque is a completely unique monkey, and only exists on Sulawesi, Indonesia. These intelligent, curious creatures with Mohican hair-dos and intense orange eyes have huge personalities, but they’re in deep trouble. Many of the local people love eating wild meat, and macaque is considered a particular delicacy. Illegal hunting has meant that the monkey population has crashed by almost 90 percent since Colin was last on the island. In this documentary, Colin finds out what he can do to help and documents his journey.
