Invited in Montreal for the MEG Festival and later for the French Beat in July and September 2016, the Nowadays crew met and fell in love with the local vibe, musical scene, and lots of its ambassadors.
From those meetings and collaborations were born friendships, and the idea to pay a tribute to this rising scene. Through this compilation, Nowadays Records takes its will to bring its sound crushes to light and promote the talents of today and tomorrow a step further.

Kevin and Christina make out in a car at the airport, flipping off the police officer that tells them to keep moving. Kevin and Christina discuss taking ecstasy as couple’s therapy. Kevin and Christina break down and then reconnect. The new love we heard about on the last of Montreal record, White is Relic/Irrealis Mood, is settling. If that was the falling-in-love record, then this is the staying-in-love record. That was the easy part; this is the interesting part, the challenging part, the next chapter of Barnes’ autobiographical album streak, UR FUN. After several albums recorded with collaborators and various band members, Barnes opted to record this one completely alone. In his home studio in Athens, Georgia, Barnes isolated himself in creative hibernation, working obsessive 12-plus hour days arranging manic synth and drum machine maps on a computer screen with bouncy, melodic basslines, glam guitars and layered vocal harmonies.

Described by the New Yorker as a "preternaturally accomplished" musician with "a voice like a velvet clarion" (New York Magazine), 16-year-old Nikki Yanofsky's commanding vocal performances often draw comparisons to a "young Ella Fitzgerald" (Seattle Post-Intelligencer). Viewers of her first PBS concert special, 'Nikki Yanofsky: Live in Montreal,' will understand why. Yanofsky's debut studio album 'Nikki' is out May 4th on Decca. Excerpts from the concert, recorded at Montreal's Salle Pierre Mercure, will be televised as part of the June PBS pledge drive. (Check local listings for air dates and times.) The full show will be available on DVD June 1st from Decca, with extra behind-the-scenes bonus footage.

Backed by a big band in her hometown, Nikki's vocal resemblance to Fitzgerald and fluid scatting are demonstrated in her compelling rendition of the Gershwins' "I Got Rhythm" and her ability to jump genres shines in her graceful reworking of Joni Mitchell's "Circle Game."

British chorus master Andrew McAnerney succeeds to the late Christopher Jackson as the new artistic director of the Studio de musique ancienne de Montreal. For his first recording with the Studio, McAnerney has chosen motets by Orlando di Lasso. McAnemey was raised in the British choral tradition and studied music at the University of Oxford. Since graduating, Andrew has enjoyed a varied musical career as a conductor, consort singer, soloist and arranger. In the domain of sacred music, di Lasso's motets are considered more original than his masses.

One of the most popular of the Nativity cantatas is certainly No. 122, performed the Sunday after Christmas, “The new-born baby,” with its motet-like opening chorus and flavored orchestral ritornellos that underline its pastoral nature. The recitative with three recorders playing the choir of angels is one of the most unusual and touching moments in all of Bach. No. 61, “Now come, Savior of the heathens” is an early Weimar cantata, dating from 1714, where the opening chorale is placed in the context of a French overture, its processional feeling perfectly suited to the first Sunday of Advent. Bach even submitted this work as an examination piece for the post of Cantor at the Thomas School; it was rejected as too theatrical.
