This album was conceived as a tribute to my dad, who came from Montgomery County, Tennessee, and hopefully will inspire others to think about their family roots. It encompasses various vocal styles, including four Hoagy Carmichael standards, an Alec Wilder bossa, two swing tunes, a country blues, a vaudeville tune, and one original. It is kind of relaxing, hence the title "Moon Country", (named after one of the Hoagy tunes), and is meant to evoke an imaginary place harkening to days gone by.

Neal is one of the most impressive young blues artists on the scene today – a fact borne out by the contents of this collection. One of the more unique doom bands on the planet would have to be The Moon Mistress from Russia. I always knew they were something special ever since I first heard their demo work, even more so on the 'Obsessed by Cursed Wastelands' split album with Snakerider. Now with their first full-length release, the band has truly come of age with 63 minutes of captivating, atmospheric doom metal that goes way beyond what I was expecting.

"New Moon Daughter" is one of Cassandra Wilson's most-beloved albums, released in 1995 on Blue Note. It reached #1 on the Billboard Top Jazz Albums chart in 1996. Critics noted that the "New Moon Daughter", although quite similar to Wilson's previous album (Blue Light 'Til Dawn), was darker in feeling and had some very striking, intense performances. Notable tracks include Billie Holiday's "Strange Fruit", "Skylark", and "Last Train to Clarksville".
