Thrash Metal

Together with their countrymen Kreator and Sodom, Germany's Destruction constituted the dominating triumvirate of Teutonic thrash metal during the 1980s. And even though they ultimately failed to match these peers in terms of commercial success and longevity, at least two of their albums still qualify among the crème de la crème of the decade's speed metal. Heavy metal underwent a worldwide revolution in the early '80s, when the lingering lessons from '70s giants like Black Sabbath and Judas Priest crashed head-on with the D.I.Y. ethos of punk rock and the sheer velocity of Motörhead to spawn the much ballyhooed New Wave of British Heavy Metal, which, in turn sparked a far more powerful and lasting bastard offspring: thrash metal. Of all the nations contaminated by this musical virus as it proliferated unchecked, Germany was second only to the U.S. in terms of widespread infection…

Remastered studio tracks from the atlantis club in basel 1962 with unique artwork including unreleased photos and interview. After their only legendary Lp-release "The Sweetest Sound" on Brunner-Schwers German Saba label in 1965, the highly talented musicians from Zurich seemed to fade into eternity. If you're a big fan of early 80's punk/hardcore then this book/cd compilation is definitely for you. It explores the underground music that sprang up, then festered, in Victoria in those days. The booklet is full of old flyers and pictures and manages to shed some light on all the bands featured on the 2 cd set. The 79 tracks on here range from a few poppy New Wave bands to crude English-style punk to low-fi jambox recordings of adolescent hardcore bands like The Beaten Retards, Jerk Ward, and The Commodes. You can find some great early stuff by the Dayglo Abortions on here too. Some of the best tracks, if only for the title are: Millions of Dead BMXers, Fuckin' Jerk, Whiter Than Hitler, My Son is a Kuwahara, Too Much Drugs, etc… I love this stuff! If you're into the obscure stuff like I am…you can't go wrong with this! –Diehard Skatezine #6
