Four solo albums from the guitarist and songwriter Mick Ralphs who was a founder member of two of the most important rock bands of the 1970s; Mott The Hoople and Bad Company. Mick Ralphs wrote many key songs across seven Mott The Hoople albums, followed by six records with Bad Company; these included 'Rock and Roll Queen', 'Ready For Love', 'Can't Get Enough', 'Good Lovin' Gone Bad' and 'Movin' On'. Bad Company took a break following 1982's 'Rough Diamonds', and after a stint playing alongside David Gilmour on his About Face tour, Mick embarked on a solo career in 1984 with 'Take This!' (CD1) which featured bassist Micky Feat and fellow Bad Company founder, drummer Simon Kirke, with a live band that consisted of guitarist Dave "Bucket" Colwell (later to join Ralphs in a reformed Bad Company), Uriah Heep drummer Chris Slade and Ozzy Osbourne keyboard player Lindsay Bridgewater.

While watching this 21-song concert by Ian Hunter & His Rant Band, one is struck by the DVD's great sound – superb clarity on "I Wish I Was Your Mother," "Knees of My Heart," and the other 19 tunes (the British label Snapper wisely deciding to release the audio on a separate disc entitled The Truth, the Whole Truth, and Nuthin' But the Truth for those who prefer CD). "23A Swan Hill" rocks harder than its appearance on another recent DVD, Strings Attached, and is classic Mott the Hoople-style angst rock accompanied by great backing vocals, long camera shots, and colorful close-ups on the DVD. The Rant Band are superb, Steve Holley from Paul McCartney's Wings, journeyman Andy York, Kinks keyboardist Ian Gibbons, the Look's Gus Goad on bass, and fellow Hoople Mick Ralphs bringing his magic back to Hunter's repertoire.

Four CD collection. When David Bowie announced at the Hammersmith Odeon on 3rd July 1973 that he (or, as it subsequently turned out, alter-ego Ziggy Stardust) was breaking up the band, manager Tony Defries glimpsed a golden opportunity rather than the end of an era. With the MainMan agency's main man coming off the road for at least a while, there was, Defries reasoned, space in the rock star firmament for a new Bowie, particularly one who would also be under MainMan's management…

This two-CD reissue of Ducks Deluxe's first two albums differs from the previous Edsel two-on-one release, as no tracks were omitted due to space constraints. In retrospect, these recordings seem more relevant after the passage of time, as they provide a clearer linkage between British blues-based album rock and late-'70s punk and post-punk new wave. In fact, the influences of British pub rock span back to '50s rock & roll and R&B. Their take on Eddie Cochran's "Nervous Breakdown" bears an uncanny resemblance to perhaps his biggest hit, "Summertime Blues." But it's Ducks Deluxe's original pieces that evoke echoes of artists like the Rolling Stones, Them, and Mott the Hoople. "Fireball" sounds like a direct outtake from All the Young Dudes or Mott, while the R&B-rich "Falling for That Woman" suggests Van Morrison at his soulful best. "Rio Grande," from Taxi to the Terminal Zone, wouldn't sound out of place on Bob Dylan's Blood on the Tracks.

Sequestered in Kentish Town to record an album with Hendrix / Slade producer Chas Chandler, in the spring of 1971 exiled American band Eggs Over Easy persuaded the landlord of local pub The Tally Ho to let them perform at the venue. Though the band were back in America by the end of the year, they inadvertently became the catalysts that sparked the pub rock revolution, with the likes of Brinsley Schwarz, Ducks Deluxe and Bees Make Honey playing a burgeoning circuit that included The Kensington in Russell Gardens, The Lord Nelson on Holloway Road and The Nashville in West Kensington.b Surrender To The Rhythm charts the origins and development of the London pub rock scene throughout the Seventies, featuring all of the aforementioned bands as well as such key names as Dr. Feelgood, Ace, Kilburn and The High Roads, Dave Edmunds, Graham Parker and Elvis Costello. We follow the scene into the late Seventies and the Stiff / punk era with the arrival of new, younger blood that included Eddie and The Hot Rods, The 101’ers, The Jam and Squeeze.
