Rush is an excellent dark blues score written by Eric Clapton (with help on the three songs) and performed by an augmented version of his band. This soundtrack album produced one big hit for Clapton with "Tears in Heaven," but it's a wonderfully intense piece of work all the way through, with some terrific guitar work from Clapton himself. Buddy Guy turns up to add lead vocals and guitar on the 11-minute version of Willie Dixon's "Don't Know Which Way to Go," and that's more than all right too. There's a very good chance that the dark intensity of this music was as much informed by the tragedies in Clapton's life ("Tears in Heaven" is about his son) as the film itself.

Baz Luhrmann's garish, flamboyant adaptation of Romeo + Juliet was hyper-kinetic and colorful, boasting a heavy inspiration from the visual style of MTV, so it's only appropriate that the soundtrack was tailored for the alternative nation that MTV fostered. Combining modern rock acts like Garbage, Radiohead, the Cardigans, and the Butthole Surfers with contemporary soul like Des'ree and adult alternative like Gavin Friday, the album is slick, polished, catchy – and surprisingly strong. Though the soul and pop is good, the alternative rock acts on the soundtrack fare the best, with Garbage and Radiohead both contributing excellent B-sides ("Number One Crush" and "Talk Show Host," respectively), with the Cardigans' sleek, sexy lounge-disco number "Lovefool" stealing the show.

Dragnet is a 1987 American buddy cop comedy film written and directed by Tom Mankiewicz in his directorial debut. Starring Dan Aykroyd and Tom Hanks, the film is based on the television crime drama of the same name. The screenplay, both a parody of and homage to the long-running television series, was written by Dan Aykroyd and Alan Zweibel. The original music score is by Ira Newborn. British electronic group Art of Noise produced an update of the series' original theme music for the title credits. They set the Dragnet theme against an electronic breakbeat and added soundbites from the film, such as Friday's "Just the facts, ma'am," timed to the music. The theme won the 1987 Grammy Award for Best Rock Instrumental Performance.

Special Edition of 1984 soundtrack, composed, arranged, and conducted by Ennio Morricone (directed by Sergio Leone). Whether sounding upbeat or stark, Morricone informs it all with the dry and windswept vacancy of the West. Beautiful and stunning. Includes 4 special edition tracks, previously unreleased, 'Suite from Once Upon A Time In America' (includes Amaploa), 'Poverty' (temp. version), 'Unused Theme' & 'Unused Theme' (version 2).

Joel McNeely & the Royal Scottish National Orchestra's version of John Barry's Academy Award-winning score for Out of Africa mixes the film's musical pieces with Celtic, classical, and pop favorites. Pieces such as Mozart's "Mozart: Clarinet Concerto in A major, K622 (adagio)," "Dear Old Ireland," and "The Ghost of Molly McGuire" blend well with Barry's lush, sweeping compositions, but purists may want to seek out a more straightforward version of the score for an unadulterated Out of Africa experience.
