In the World War II era, big bands and swing music reached the heights of popularity with soldiers as well as friends and loved ones back home. Many entertainers such as Glenn Miller also served in the military, or supported the war effort with bond drives and entertaining the troops at home and abroad. In addition to big band and swing music, musicals, jazz, blues, gospel and country music were also popular.

Formed in December 1975 by Pepé Willie (the former husband of Prince’s cousin), 94 East was the Minneapolis-based funk group in which Prince first came to prominence. Willie was a key player in launching Prince’s career, spotting his many talents and quickly enlisting the young maestro into 94 East (named after Interstate 94 in Minneapolis). These earliest known recordings made with 94 East were recorded between December 1975 and February 1979, with Prince contributing electric guitar, guitars, bass, keyboards, synths, organ, drums, harmony and backing vocals and he is clearly heard on every track. Newly remastered and restored from Pepé Willie’s original tapes by Nick Robbins at Sound Mastering in London.

'I did not think the second volume could possibly be as good as the first. I was wrong. So browse, read it through, or just use it as a reference - you will find there is always more to learn. It is a wonderful accomplishment. Anyone who cares about popular music should have this book.'
