Music of The World

From India is a 1995 album by Ravi Shankar & Ali Akbar Khan. It is a jugalbandi disc where they are joined by different tabla and tambura players depending on which raga or dhun it is. It is a European pressing released by Music Of The World.

River Yamuna is a 1997 CD by The Karnataka College Of Percussion with K. Raghavendra. This was released on the Music Of The World label.

Henry Fothergill Chorley made his name as music journalist for The Athanaeum from 1830 until his retirement in 1868. He published weekly reviews of concerts as well as gossip on musicians and composers of the day.

In the World War II era, big bands and swing music reached the heights of popularity with soldiers as well as friends and loved ones back home. Many entertainers such as Glenn Miller also served in the military, or supported the war effort with bond drives and entertaining the troops at home and abroad. In addition to big band and swing music, musicals, jazz, blues, gospel and country music were also popular.

Formed in December 1975 by Pepé Willie (the former husband of Prince’s cousin), 94 East was the Minneapolis-based funk group in which Prince first came to prominence. Willie was a key player in launching Prince’s career, spotting his many talents and quickly enlisting the young maestro into 94 East (named after Interstate 94 in Minneapolis). These earliest known recordings made with 94 East were recorded between December 1975 and February 1979, with Prince contributing electric guitar, guitars, bass, keyboards, synths, organ, drums, harmony and backing vocals and he is clearly heard on every track. Newly remastered and restored from Pepé Willie’s original tapes by Nick Robbins at Sound Mastering in London.

Nonesuch releases Louis Andriessen's "grotesque stagework" Theatre of the World—recorded live during the Los Angeles Philharmonic's 2016 world premiere performances with conductor Reinbert de Leeuw and director Pierre Audi—on September 29, 2017. The nine-scene multi-media work, which was commissioned by the Philharmonic with generous support from the Lenore S. and Bernard A. Greenberg Fund, features a libretto by Helmut Krausser. Theatre of the World is a far-ranging exploration of the German Jesuit scholar Athanasius Kircher (1601–1680).
