Mysterium Tremendum

Hollywood Records will release a soundtrack album for the supernatural horror thriller The Empty Man. The album features the film’s original music composed by Christopher Young (Spider-Man 3, Hellraiser, Ghost Rider, Sinister, The Exorcism of Emily Rose, Entrapment, The Shipping News, The Hurricane) and Lustmord (First Reformed, Evolve). The Empty Man is written and directed by David Prior and stars James Badge Dale, Marin Ireland, Stephen Root, Ron Canada, Robert Aramayo, Joel Courtney and Sasha Frolova. The movie is based on the graphic novel by Cullen Bunn and follows a retired cop who investigates the disappearnace of a group of teens from a small Midwestern town and discovers a secretive group and their attempts to summon a horrific, mystical entity. The thriller is being released in theaters nationwide this weekend by 20th Century Studios/Disney.

These three works by the Romanian composer Livia Teodorescu-Ciocănea (b. 1959) show her approach to three of the central genres of the western classical tradition: symphony, concerto and cantata.

Nashville’s Hammock follows up 2017’s critically-acclaimed Mysterium with Universalis, the second installment of a planned three-album series. While Mysterium took listeners down a horizontal path that explored themes of death and grief, Universalis begins a vertical, upward movement back toward the light.
