Now 1980 1984

Each release in our ‘Yearbook’ series includes a vinyl edition, featuring a selection of tracks taken from the full line-up found on the CD version. Inevitably, this has meant that a huge number of fabulous tracks have not been included on the LP versions… plus we have also released an accompanying CD ‘Extra’ for each of the years.

Each release in our Yearbook series contains a vinyl edition with a selection of tracks from the complete line-up of the CD version. At the end of 2022 we released NOW Yearbook 1980 - 1984: Vinyl Extra a 5LP boxset containing one album per year for the period 1980-1984, each with an incredible selection of tracks taken from either Yearbook or the Extra and not previously included on a vinyl edition.

NOW was recently proud to announce the ‘Yearbook’ for 1985, as we move forward to the second half of the 1980s, and we were delighted with the response to the 1979 edition back in September. However, we haven’t quite finished with those golden pop years 1980 – 1984.

"Now Voyager" is the 2nd solo album to be recorded by Barry Gibb, although it was his first to be released. "Now Voyager" contains his biggest solo hits, "Shine, Shine" and "Fine Line". The album also included the Olivia Newton-John duet "Face to Face", which was released as a promo single. Gibb co-produced the album with Karl Richardson, who had been working with the Bee Gees since 1975. The front cover photograph was taken by Alex Henderson at Victoria Baths, Manchester. The album originally reached #72 on US Billboard 200 before dropping to #88, then #119 on 24 November 1984 and #148 on 1 December 1984. The album had three singles, including "Shine, Shine", "Fine Line" and the promo single "Face to Face". Barry also released a full-length "Now Voyager" video.

‘The Sun Shines Here’ captures perfectly the moment indie pop emerged from the ashes of the post-punk years, bringing a brighter, more ambitious sound, and an enthused cross-section of British youth culture, into the spotlight. A must for lovers and collectors of independent music and admirers of the independent spirit that enabled it.
Eight years later, Cherry Red presents the sequel, ‘The Sun Shines Here’. Once again referencing a Hurrah! song, this 3CD set revisits and explores the birth of Indie Pop, a period when, in the early 1980s, as London centred around more angular, aggressive music, bands emerged from Scotland, Liverpool and Manchester drawing on the cooler end of ‘60s and ‘70s music to create something fresh and new.

#1 Hits 1980-1984 is a compilation of different songs from the 1980's. It was released in 1994 by GNP Crescendo and are the original songs by the original artists.

The Now That’s What I Call Music team are effectively issuing a companion 3CD set to Now Yearbook 1980-1984: The Final Chapter, itself a companion to the ten previous Yearbook releases covering those five years.The ‘Extra’ version of Yearbook 1980-1984 is, as usual, a 3CD set in a card sleeve and this one features 63 “essential hits” from the period.
