When We Left Earth is the story of mankind's greatest adventure, leaving the earth and living in space. For the first time, this series has digitally re-mastered the original film and audio recordings from NASA's vaults, including and all the key onboard footage filmed by the astronauts themselves. From John Glenn's Mercury mission to orbit the earth to Neil Armstrong's first historic steps on the moon, to the unprecedented spacewalks required to repair the Hubble telescope, these epic stories are shown in stunning clarity and told by the astronauts and engineers who were there.

In 1995, the NASA Systems Engineering Handbook (NASA/SP-6105) was initially published to bring the fundamental concepts and techniques of systems engineering to the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) personnel in a way that recognized the nature of NASA systems and the NASA environment. Since its initial writing and its revision in 2007 (Rev 1), systems engineering as a discipline at NASA has undergone rapid and continued evolution. This revision (Rev 2) of the Handbook maintains that original philosophy while updating the Agency’s systems engineering body of knowledge, providing guidance for insight into current best Agency practices, and maintaining the alignment of the Handbook with the Agency’s systems engineering policy.

NASA has produced a documentary about the Alpha Magnetic Spectrometer (AMS), a particle physics experiment on the International Space Station. The film covers the history of this revolutionary experiment and the man behind it. Originally proposed in 1994 by Samuel Ting, a Nobel laureate and MIT Professor of Physics, and built by over 600 physicists and engineers all over the world, the Alpha Magnetic Spectrometer is by far the most complex physics experiment ever launched into space.

The Sky at Night team talk to Dr Nicola Fox, NASA's head of science, whose life began in the UK. Chris Lintott chats to Nicky about her early years growing up in Hitchin in Hertfordshire and discovers how she fell in love with the stars. Maggie Aderin-Pocock takes Nicky on a trip down memory lane. Both women studied physics at Imperial College London from the late 80s to early 90s. As they revisit familiar haunts, they discuss their experiences, and Maggie finds out about Nicky's love of astrophysics, the challenges she overcame and how she landed a dream job at NASA.
