Neil Gaiman - Coraline [UNABRIDGED] (Audiobook 3 CDs)
This is a somewhat spooky story about a girl named Coraline (not Caroline as the crazy old man says). It is like a modern version of Alice in WonderLand but without the silliness. It may frighten or confuse children under eight and I recommend it for people of all ages above that. This story is mainly about how Coraline tries to escape the wicked other mother, free her parents from the other mothers cluches, and free the souls of the children who live in the mirror. She will encounter the other mother, a talking cat who helps her on her journey, and the rats who help the other mother and give Coraline spooky messages. If you like books that are a little bit spooky, sort of weird, but a lot of fun to read, then this is the perfect book for you.
Neil Gaiman is a master storyteller. His diction is perfect. He does not waste words, but is not miserly with them either. His descriptions never fail to rouse a knowing nod and smile from the reader. Even when writing a quick throwaway piece in his journal...his style is impeccable.
