The Boatman's Call is the tenth studio album by Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, released in 1997. The album, which is entirely piano-based and a departure from the band's post-punk catalogue, remains one of the most critically acclaimed releases of Nick Cave's career.

The blues had long been a potent undercurrent in the Birthday Party's music, so it wasn't all that surprising that Nick Cave embraced the sound and feeling of rural blues on his second album with the Bad Seeds, The Firstborn Is Dead. What was startling was how well Cave and his bandmates – Barry Adamson, Mick Harvey, and Blixa Bargeld – were able to absorb and honor the influences of artists like Skip James and Charley Patton while creating a sound that was unmistakably their own. The moody obsessions of rural blues – trains, floods, imprisonment, sin, fear, and death – seemed made to order for Cave, and he was able to tap into the doomy iconography of this music with potent emotional force; on "Tupelo," he makes a sweeping and disturbing epic of the rain-swept night when Elvis Presley was born, and "Knocking on Joe" is a tale of life on the work gang that communicates the pain of the spirit as clearly as the ache of the body.

Grinderman, c’est le nom de la nouvelle formation autour de Nick Cave … for fans only(mp3@192)
March 2007 release
MUTE records

Personnel
Nick CAVE - vocals, electric guitar, organ, piano
Warren ELLIS - electric bouzouki, Fendocastor, violin, viola, acoustic guitar, backing vocals
Martyn CASEY - bass, acoustic guitar, backing vocals
Jim SCLAVUNOS - drums, percussion, backing vocals

Les lignes "Eurydice appeared brindled in blood / And she said to Orpheus / If you play that fucking thing down here / I’ll stick it up your orifice" étant encore fraîches dans les mémoires, nous sommes curieux de savoir si Cave parviendra à refaire ce tour de force. "Loin de nous l'idée de vouloir entretenir volontairement pendant tout le disque la maturité de notre doigt du milieu, mais je me souviens avoir constamment pensé que nous n'étions quand même pas si mauvais pour de vieilles casseroles", a indiqué Martin Casey à propos de cet album sans titre, dont la sortie est annoncée pour le 5 mars 2007.

Foul-mouthed, noisy, hairy, and damn well old enough to know better, Grinderman are Nick Cave, Warren Ellis, Martyn Casey and Jim Sclavunos. On 5th April 2006, Nick, Warren, Martyn and Jim entered RAK studios, London, for a week with producer Nick Launay and recorded new songs. It was mixed in September at Metropolis Studios. Calling themselves Grinderman, the album is set for a March 2007 release.

The Good Son is the sixth album by Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, released in 1990. After an album as dark and intense as Tender Prey, some fans were disappointed to hear a relaxed and loving Nick Cave on this record. The change of mood was due in great deal to Nick Cave falling in love with Brazilian journalist Viviane Carneiro, and an apparently salutary spell in rehab which purged the despair and squalor of the previous two albums. However, today, most fans consider this album as a classic that was unfairly judged at the time.

No More Shall We Part ended a four-year recorded silence from Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds. No new material had appeared since 1997's landmark, The Boatman's Call. With that record Cave had finally delivered an entire album of deeply tragic and beautiful love songs without irony, sarcasm, or violence…

In April 2013, Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds were booked to play the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival, and with the same lineup of acts appearing two consecutive weekends, Cave and his bandmates had a few days to kill in California. During their downtime in the Golden State, Cave and the Bad Seeds cut a live-in-the-studio session for Santa Monica's public radio station KCRW-FM, and the recordings have been released under the straightforward (if less than imaginative) title Live from KCRW. Given that Cave's Push the Sky Away had been released just two months earlier, it should come as no surprise that the KCRW set followed the soulful but understated tone of that album, and the two releases share four songs, but in many respects, this is a richer and more emotionally engaging experience, and nearly as precise…

When Blixa Bargeld left Nick Cave's Bad Seeds, who would have predicted his departure would result in one of the finest offerings in the band's catalog? Abbatoir Blues/The Lyre of Orpheus is a double CD or, rather, two completely different albums packaged in one very handsome box with a stylish lyric booklet and subtly colored pastel sleeves. They were recorded in a total of 16 days by producer Nick Launay (Kate Bush, Midnight Oil, Girls Against Boys, Silverchair, INXS, Virgin Prunes, et al.). Abbatoir Blues, the first disc in the set (packaged in pink, of course), is a rock & roll record. Yeah, the same guy who released the Boatman's Call, No More Shall We Part, and Nocturama albums has turned in a pathos-drenched, volume-cranked rocker, full of crunch, punishment – and taste.

It's got all the look of "deluxe" written on it, the thick, book-like black cover with an inset photo of frontman Nick Cave doing his flip to wig city dance – Bad Seeds fans don't need much encouragement to rush out and pick up something by St. Nick and his motley crew of bent ministers of melody, and there's good reason. This double-DVD/double-CD package assembled from the Abattoir Blues Tour in 2003 and 2004 is quite a thing.
