Classic songs get new life thanks to the cartoon blockbuster by the folks behind Despicable Me and Secret Life of Pets. A non-stop singalong, the soundtrack features original tunes by Stevie Wonder, Ariana Grande, and Scarlett Johansson, alongside catchy covers. Tori Kelly’s version of Wonder’s 1973 hit “Don’t You Worry ‘Bout a Thing” will have the whole family grooving.

Roger Waters' The Wall, Live In Berlin marks the second in a series of Pink Floyd related reviews I will be writing to commemorate the long awaited release of the band's Pulse DVD, which I reviewed last month. During the end of the 80's, after Roger Waters had left Pink Floyd, he began making plans to perform The Wall as a huge event, originally considering such grand places as the Sahara Desert, Monument Valley, The Grand Canyon, and Wall Street. Around this time, plans were also underway for the reunification of Germany, and the Berlin wall eventually fell in November of 1989.

This original material ranges from blues (old-school and contemporary) to soul, funk, rock and pop. Singer/songwriter Willa Vincitore has been building a fan base across the Hudson Valley in New York for nearly two decades. While her songwriting is an eclectic mix of blues, soul, rock, funk and (occasionally) pop, there’s one thing that ties it all together—that voice. Before launching her own band, she was an original member of the award-winning Chris O'Leary Band (O’Leary was a longtime member of the late Levon Helm’s Barn Burners band before launching his project).

When it came time for Motown to package its Commodores catalog for the CD market, they paired up the albums into a series of two-fers, one of the more suitable pairings being Natural High/Midnight Magic. These back to back albums, from 1978 and 1979 respectively, flow together well. Neither is one of the group's best overall albums, but each has a good share of hits that add up to a satisfying albeit spotty sum, one that includes a pair of gigantic hits, "Three Times a Lady" and "Still." These two crossover hits are both quiet piano ballads sung by Lionel Richie, who had made such songs his stock-in-trade by this point, delivering one or two on every successive Commodores album, to generally greater and greater (and broader) success each go round.

Among musicians, Arthur Alexander was always considered one of the greatest R&B songwriters. Both the Beatles and the Rolling Stones covered his songs, "Anna (Go to Him)" and "You Better Move On," respectively, early in their careers. But they weren't the only ones – throughout the years, his work was rich source material for many blues, soul, rock, and country artists. He may have earned the recognition of his peers, but he remained relatively unknown to the general public, right up to his death in 1993. In order to raise his profile, Razor & Tie released Adios Amigo: A Tribute to Arthur Alexander in 1994, assembling a stellar and diverse lineup to record new versions of his songs. The diversity and the fresh arrangements illustrates the depth of Alexander's songs and how well they lent themselves to new readings. Like any tribute album, Adios Amigo is uneven, with a few tracks falling flat, but the best moments – Elvis Costello's "Sally Sue Brown," Robert Plant's "If It's Really Got to Be This Way," Chuck Jackson's "You Better Move On," Frank Black's "Old John Amos," John Prine's "Lonely Just Like Me," Gary U.S. Bonds' "Genie in the Jug," Graham Parker's "Every Day I Have to Cry" and Nick Lowe's "In the Middle of It All" – are affectionate salutes to a departed master, and they're damn enjoyable in their own right as well.
